Smackloff or Orrin in Denver can be entertaining on occasion.
The clones arent that much more different than sports show call ins on the Score. Listeners revel in the illusion that they have any kind of talent to contribute. B&B does a good job of putting them in their rightful place ---like a Rusty in Stickney.

muscholar -- you're so right. if it's true that he's off the air (i haven't had a chance to listen in the past week or so) this is a travesty on par with the cancellation of loveline in chicago. who the fuck makes these decisions?

also, though i agree with you that i don't think i could stand him mid-day (didn't much like him in the morning for that brief period), do we really need dan patrick live? jesus.

if there's any good to come from this, i might actually listen to more music on night drives, now. and if nick d keeps making regular appearances on wgn weeknights, that might work, too, but.. man. i liked rome.

How was Loveline doing after Adam Carolla left? Loveline's back on now at 12AM. CKG once again swapped hosts with no notice. Tom Leykis is canned for Glenn Beck. OReilly moved to 2AM. WGN Nick D is great , as always.

Found some Rome aftermath on the web:

This is a pretty good Rome forum.

Hes also offers archived podcasts for 7 bucks a month.

Would have been nice if they freebee-ed them to the Chicago market since they dont have a station now. Same day podcasts may be free during the live hours.

intangibles:

i only thought to reference loveline cause stink brought it up on the sundevil thread. i remember sometime before carolla leaving in 2005 he was being subbed for a lot, and it was just brutal. you get used to a certain sound, attitude, and chemistry, and it just wasn't there without him. i imagine this is similar to how fans of the original HFC feel about boers with bernstein. i also just found out about CKG airing the show, as a result of stink's posts, but i doubt i'll listen.

nick d is indeed awesome. i wonder if he's the only radio personality (almost) everyone on this board can agree on -- that'd be a more interesting poll than b&b vs. mjh, in my opinion.

also, thanks for the links. the podcast idea (free to chicago, or free live feeds) isn't a bad idea. i'm hoping he'll just get picked up here again once local management realizes jason smith is essentially the same guy as rome but without the humor and an annoying voice nobody wants to hear. i wasn't too aware of all the OG stuff, but the way he's described (nasal, almost falsetto, kind of a DB) is how i feel about jason smith.

oh, yeah, and there's always david stein... no.
