I was listening to this clown Marty Ferrell, I think his name is, and he kept going on about where the origins of the term "windy city" came from when referring to Chicago. A number of people called in to mention the politicians, the actual wind, the issue with the world's fair and the rivalry back in the late 1800's with Cincinnati and their baseball team. He said all of them were wrong. I called in after someone had just mentioned the Cincinnati reference thinking that a sports talk show would use the sports angle as the main reason. I was cut off right after I mentioned that same thing and cited the Chicago Historical Society as the place the information came from. He laughed it off...but that was not the real reason why I called.

While he made fun of the people from Chicago who called in to answer his question, this meathead kept saying that he was on WGN not WSCR. In fact, as people from Chicago called in he kept saying, "You're listening on the Score". He would then continue on how he was on WGN. I tried to call him on that and was cut off. He even said, "WGN, world's greatest network". He got that wrong too.

Note to Mitch Rosen...cut out the syndicated garbage especially when those doing it do not know who their affiliates are. I will try to get this to Boers and Bernstein for "Who ya Crappin".

How many studios do they have since Nick Digilio is on as he was speaking? When I heard him he said he was on WGN, not broadcasting from. Even then, he should use the correct call letters of the station that is actually carrying his show.

You maybe correct on that. If you say you are broadcasting from the WGN studios that is one thing. But when I heard him he kept saying he was ON WGN. He's not on WGN, he's broadcasting on WSCR. When he took a call from Chicago he should have said, "Here's Joe listening on WSCR the Score in Chicago". When he told callers that they were listening on the Score he never mentioned the stations call letters. He kept referring to being on WGN. My problem was he kept calling the callers stupid for not knowing why the city is nicknamed the Windy city. I didn't listen long enough to hear his answer.

I should clarify that when I wrote "You may be correct on that" I was referring to Hiram's post.

KS, I agree with you. I've only known about it regarding politicians or the actual wind itself.

KS,
What's interesting is that I have looked it up and no where does it mention business conventions as the origin of the nickname. From "ehow" to wikipedia to the Chicago Historical Society, none of them bring up business conventions as the correct answer. This guy is a moron.

Here's a good article I found on the subject: http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_co ... t_of_.html

Bottom line that host was wrong.

Why do the Yahoo! Sports producers never dump swear words. I heard bull**** after he told that guy he was wrong about jazz musicians.

If it means anything, it won't be much longer before WSCR 670 The SCORE starts airing CBS Sports Radio Network programming overnights twice a week instead of Yahoo! Sports Radio. I still think you'll still hear The SCORE where K-Hits is now after the first of the year...at 104.3 FM.

I could see that billboard being mistaken for having bullet holes painted on it.

It's fitting.
