WSCR-AM/670 The Score is holding its eight annual "Score Search." For the third consecutive year, WSCR-AM is looking for a new fantasy football expert for the station. The search will be the fastest one yet, beginning next week and concluding less than two weeks later.

As was the case in past "Score Search" contests, those who wish to take part in the contest need to show up at one of the live, open auditions being held at venues around Chicagoland.

The Score's "2016 Fantasy Football Expert" contest kicks off on Thursday, September 8th with the first open audition taking place at the Illinois Media School's Chicago campus (530 S. State Street) from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The second open audition will take place on Tuesday, September 13th at the Illinois Media School's Lombard campus (455 Eisenhower Lane South, Suite #200), also from 6:00pm-8:00pm. (Although held at schools, the contest is open to all, not just students.)

At the end of all of these two live auditions, WSCR-AM Operations Manager/Program Director Mitch Rosen will select the top 10 candidates. Those candidates will be invited to have a one-on-one formal interview with Rosen. From that process, the final four candidates will be chosen.

WSCR-AM's latest "Fantasy Football Expert" search will conclude with a live event on September 20th, from 7:00pm-9:00pm (at a location to be announced soon). There, the finalists will get one more chance to impress a panel of judges and win the coveted role as WSCR-AM 2016 Fantasy Football Expert. The judges will consist of station programmers and fantasy football experts.

The winner of the competition will be a key part of a special segment each week, broadcast during a the Fantasy Football show on WSCR-AM each Sunday from 8:00am-9:00am during the NFL season. WSCR-AM veteran Joe Ostrowski will host the program.

Said Rosen in a statement: "The Fantasy Football program has seen great success over the years and giving someone else the chance to host a segment on our Fantasy Football show is an exciting opportunity. The Fantasy Football industry continues to be of high interest to our listeners. I look forward to finding the right candidate to fill this role with the station!"

While not actually using the words "Score Search" in the name of this contest this year, this is the eighth consecutive year that WSCR-AM has held a competition to add to their staff. Most of the winners stayed on with the station well beyond the contest prize period -- some still remain with the station today.

The first "Score Search" contest year was 2009 when the station found a new sports reporter in Connor McKnight. (McKnight was with the station for over four years before moving elsewhere He is now with WLS-AM). The second year winner, named in the summer of 2010, was Maya Gavin (now Akai), who joined WSCR-AM as a weekend overnight sports talk show host for a while. (After two years with WSCR-AM, she went on to host on WVON-AM and is now hosting her own Internet radio show.) In the summer of 2011, the station found its newest online sports blogger in Tim Baffoe with that "Score Search" contest. Baffoe is still working with the station to this day. As a bonus, WSCR-AM also hired the 2011 contest runner-up, Dan Durkin. (Durkin remained with the station until earlier this year. He is now a writer for sports website The Athletic.) WSCR-AM named Steve Berger as the "Score Search" winner in 2012, offering him a weekend talk show. (Berger is no longer with the station.) For the 2013 contest (the last to use the "Score Search" name), the station found and hired Brandon Lee to be its new Social Media expert. (Lee now writes/edits for baseball blog Banished To The Pen and is the Communications Coordinator the Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Chicago organization.) The 2014 Fantasy Football Expert contest (the first of these) was won by Jack Thomason, who remains with the station as a Fantasy Football blogger and on-air contributor. Spence Branson was the winner of last year's Fantasy Football Expert contest and was with the station through the end of the 2015-2016 NFL season

All those twentysomething dorks already at the Score and one of them can't babble about Sports Dungeons & Dragons for a segment?

No kidding.

Want some "expert" fantasy advice?... Pray your players don't get injured. That's about the extent of the strategy to it.

True. Joe Ostrowski was one of those dorks that they plucked from the staff to be the fantasy/gambling expert. Good for him. That extra money makes up for 10% of what Joe loses being a degenerate gambler.
