from deadspin

It looks like Telander asked for a word with Jay in the pressbox at the Cubs Sox game; one may think that MAriotti might handle this with a shred of professionalism, decorum, or class...

OF COURSE NOT

An update on the Jay Mariotti incident we referenced earlier this morning. An eyewitness source files the following report:

It was indeed Mariotti, and it was Rick Telander who walked up to Jay, and said "Can we talk?" Telander insists that's all he said. Mariotti called for security, who essentially told him that unless a hand is laid on someone, they will do nothing to defend him.

Mariotti spent the bulk of the rest of the game in the press-box lunchroom, on his cellphone.

We can't imagine how much Telander must want to kill the guy. You can probably find a spot in the newsroom, likely when he's filming "Around The Horn." Does the Sun-Times have its own security in the newsroom? We doubt newspapers can afford such luxuries.

the evidence that Mariotti is off of his rocker is rapidly growing..... poor Jay. It must be tough asking the hard questions, airing your dirty laundy in front of the likes of John Callaway on Channel 11 and then not even giving a brother journalist the common decency to talk to him about whatever problem may be going on between youself and Telander.

The man is just plain classless. The same can be said of the White Sox organization in all of this Mariotti bullshit.

Jay's pathetic. He talks a big game, but when confronted, he turns yellow. It's not as if Telander is going to hit him, I think Rick is more professional than that. Jay is just a drama queen who wants sympathy from others when he feels "attacked".

I have no use for Jay, but Telander is a self-righteous pudwhack.

Same problem Jay had some 38 years ago. Somebody a little older than him and with fists is looking to kick his ass. Maybe when Jay becomes another 20 years older, he'll only complain abou the young'ons looking to kick his ass.

Hey Jay, think of all the names you've ever called anybody, ball up your fists, close your eyes and swing. . . .

Then security will come and haul off your bloody ass, and Chicago's working sports press corp will have nothing else to talk about . . . , or witness . . . , or state to the security guards who may show up or the cops who may actually care.

It'll be like Denver or even Detroit, all over again.

As for his apologists, why is it that he's afraid of any locker room (and soon to be press box) but only names the Sox organization?

What the hell has the Sox done in this bullshit to be considered the same type of classless as Mariotti? Thats a stupid comment.

I doubt Nas will chime in on this one. Although we disagree on everything, I think its absurd hes still a Jay the Joke apologist.

Well

pantomiming the anal rape of a journalist is not excatly professional. Ozzie did do that.

I just think that it would be better for the white sox to take the high road and not even acknowledge anything the guy says. To reference his articles just gives him more shit to talk about.

Kenny has done it, Jerry has done it. What I mean by that is that they have taken implied potshots at Eddie Munster. Why should a World Series winning organization have to stoop so low as to give five flying F&^ks what Munster writes?

That is what I find classless, it just plays into the real or imagined stereotype of Sox being meathead.

You're right Sabu. But it's hard for some people to not take the bait when they are being verbally assaulted. Turning the other cheek isn't easy, especially when an uncivil lout like Mariotti is carrying out his assaults as often as he does. When it comes to Mariotti, the Sox management would be well advised to remember: Never wrestle with a pig. You get dirty and the pig likes it.

Remember when T got into it on air with Jerry Glanville? How about the friendly tidings between J Hood and Rick in the afternoons on The Score?
Rick doesn't seem to play well with others.
