I actually clicked on the bar and expected to find out about the story.
I might need a designated driver to get home tonight.

Okay, first off this is Cy. Sorry about the new screenname but you will understand a little later. I want to thank everyone at this message board for your kind words regarding my father. This past year has been hard on my family and me but friends, loved ones and even strangers have helped ease the pain. The goodness of other peoples hearts can be amazing. My father was a good man and he will be dearly missed. I have my memories and someday they all wont make me cry.

As for other things, I am no longer at the Score. I resigned about a month ago. Their are many people there that I will miss and I had some good times with. I have moved on and am not bitter (okay maybe a little), but I realize that it was time to head in a new direction. I still have my show on WJOL 1340am and I have started my own website.

www.sportsjuana.com is the name of the site and I did everything myself. I have been working pretty hard on it and I think it's pretty good. I taught myself CSS and then xhtml, but I'm happy with it for now. I envision a Deadspin for Chicago (I'm not saying I write as good as Leitch), but a site that gives news with a view on all of Chicago's Sports Culture. From Urlacher to Coppeck. I have been linked on "The Big Lead" and "Deadspin.com", so I think people like it. I'm just going to write and do my show and see what happens. Thanks and talk to you later.

Good luck, glad to see you're still in the sports game. Feel free to stop by and burn some bridges when you want to talk about what happened.

The Score midday host celebrated another birthday on Thursday. While he might be a year older, it is doubtful that he is wiser. He has a mustache. Seriously a ’stache. The former bleacher bum whose show continues to be stuck in the 70’s is another year closer to retirement. This couldn’t happen fast enough for many Chicagoans, who actually want to listen to sports radio during their lunch breaks. Nothing makes one hurl faster than hearing Murph’s creepy voice obsessing over Brown’s Chicken everyday.

The two good points of Murph’s show are the updates when he doesn’t bother to make a bad joke and the closing music. The problem is everything else. Murph is the King of Staled Bits, the Champion of Bad Drops and the Sultan of Boring. He knows Cubs but little else. Did I mention he has a mustache. Seriously a ’stache. Add all that up and realize that he watches games with a yellowpad and you realize why we love Murph so much here at Sportsjuana. Happy Birthday Murph and hopefully someone will get you a razor this year.

So what the hell is a 'drop'. All the radio insiders use it and I have no idea what it means.

In the case of Murph's show, it's the annoyingly bad sound effects that he plays, such as the horn "boing" sound effect that he plays after saying the phrase "Andy the clown McPhail" (spelled incorrectly for accuracy).

Or when Murph asks "When will John Dewan be on?" and then he plays the "drop" of Tom Trebelhorn saying "Tomorrow, now go have a beer, you're bothering me".

The good (or bad) thing about drops on his show are: if you've haven't heard a particular one just listen for one week and you will hear them all played at least once, if not more.

Thanks Matt for the info. I kind like those 'drops' (my favorite is 'I Predict')

I also liked the '60 minutes' spoofs he used to do when he had just a few minutes after TB&Danny Mac and before the station signed off.

And who among us hasn't laughed out loud at 'Sports Spurts' -- sort of a grammatically correct version of WMCA's radio graffiti/quickies?

I'm sorry Cy and the other producers don't think much of Murph, but, to me, his shows, have been over the years, the most entertaining on the SCORE.

No offense, Cy, but you might consider your time as Murph's producer time well spent.

All that talk about Murph & his Mustache: I thought Cy was about to call him a former 70s porno star.

Murph is a penis with ears. He never lets anyone get a word in during his show. He won't even let Stone talk. I never listen to the dick head.

That'd be a big surprise to his wife... And possibly Murph's wife, too.
