So it seems that Lawrence has been listening to a lot of Silvy and Waddle as he now is asking callers to bring up their "credentials" when they call followed by a "ding" noise. Very original programming concept Lawrence. Tell us again how the Pulse is more than just taking calls...

Is this like Murph asking you to declare whether you are Sox or Cubs fan?

Or Bernsie cross-examining the pantsless?

Why am I thinking "Hub"? Oh yeah: coached 'x' years, played 'y' years, what're your credentials to criticize Dick Jauron? Drawing breath was enough in my mind...

Douchebaggery, all around.

"Laurence" and "credentials" in a title.

I bet LoHo can't use that ESPN "ding" that "Waddle & Silvy" use and on "Baseball Tonight"...

That's pretty damn lame if you ask me...you have a new show...try something "new". Not to mention the former Bear host...does LH also claim he has the body of an adonis?

I'll bet Larry will make Hampton put on an #87 Bears Jersey for every show. He'll talk about slapping his couch now too. I'll bet Larry told Ginger Zee he had a body of an adonis.

Actually, it's more like explaining over and over ad nauseum
just what in the fuck "The Pulse TM" is....

Larry:
"What are you and your buddies talking about around the water cooler?
What are you and your buddies texting each other about?
What is 'The Pulse TM' of the Chicago sports fan?
This is your opportunity to respond to us, give us 'The Pulse TM'.
What do you and your buddies think of my overinflated sense of importance?
In the final half hour, YOU take over the show................

Dan in Chicago
, what do you want to say about the Cubs?"

Dan in Chicago
:
"Hey Laurence, congratulations on the new show. Love the new show. How'z it goin?"

Larry:
"Things are well, what did you want to say about the Cubs?"
(edit: He actually doesn't really use the word well in that retarded way much
anymore, but he used to ALL THE TIME, drove me up the fucking wall :x )

Dan in Chicago
:
"The Cubs are in first place, that's pretty cool."

Larry:
"The Cubs are indeed in first place, because they have the most wins in their division.
There are 4 other teams in the NL Central that have not won as many games as the Cubs,
so that's why they are in first place. OK, that was 'The Pulse TM'. Mike Murphy is coming
up after the top of the hour, so try to show Murph the same love you showed me.
This has been a Matt Weber production, enjoy the Biz Markie subliminal song of the day
YOUUUUUUUUUUUU GOT WUT I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED"

Nice job, Shirtless Driver. That's exactly what Larry is. It's just phony bullshit. Just killing time. Simple answers. Simple observations. But he presents everything like he just discovered the most amazing things.

Sometimes sports talk can be simple. It's required at times. But Larry gives you everything like it's amazing or that his thoughts are ground breaking. He's patronizing and insults your intelligence.

Plus, he talks to his listeners like he's a teacher speaking to 5-year olds.

Mitch, just in case you're reading (and we know you are) I've heard a lot of good music between 10-12 since Larry took over. Problem for you is that it's been on The Loop, and Jack FM, and Will Rock, and The Drive.........

It's funny you bring up the "things are well" thing. I noticed that too. it's one of those schoolmarmy things people do to sound grammatical. The funny thing though is that it is incorrect. Things aren't well, they are good. Good is a predicate adjective; well is an adverb and cannot function as a predicate adjective.

It's like people who say "This is he" when you ask for them on the phone. No, it's "This is him."

I haven't called a home phone line in so long I forgot that people even do that. It must be 5 years or so now since I called a home line asking for the person I'm looking for. I remember the terrible old days where I'd have to ask for somebody and then get stuck talking for 10 minutes to the person answering the phone. God that sucked.

He could also say "I am good" in response as well.

It is a shame that his shows tend to be neither good nor well.

I am doing well would be fine, because well could be an adverb and doing would take the place of the predicate as the participle. I am well would not work.

Shirtless Driver presents a wonderful print version of Laurence introducing The Pulse. He does the same thing with "Subliminal Song", as if it is the greatest radio bit in the history of the medium. He has a hyperbolic and increasingly gimmicky show that has driven me back to the competition in the morning just after I'd returned to The Score. And the speech impediment doesn't help. Terry is "Teary", do is "dyew" to is "tyew"..it gets mighty annoying.
By the way isn't the whole basis of sportstalk radio people calling up with their thoughts and subject matter? Laurence does it for a half hour and acts like he invented the concept.

I can only hope that Silvy and Waddle absolutely throttle the dork and the drunk. I haven't listened in a few weeks and from what I've read, things aren't getting any better.

What the fuck was so wrong with keeping him as a fill-in and on the Bears beat?

I happed to flip over this morning as I was eating lunch. "Remember.... in about 18 minutes we've got The Pulse......" Button punched.

And another thing that makes me punch the button. Mully and Hanley's hour of "R&R". Isn't "recapping and reacting" the definition of sports radio? Here's a thought. Take some damn calls and don't try to make it this new concept!

"The Pulse" is a perfect example of why this guy shouldn't have a talk show.
