I don't tend to berate the Score--even with their many faults--as most do on these boards....Hell, I generally enjoy, or at least tolerate most of the hots (even Jesse) but what is it with their God damned commercials promoting Steve Stone as the "Greatest Baseball Analyst in the world"...Stoney has a ton of baseball knowledge, and may be one of the better ones out there, but the best? Hell no. I understand the Score's attempt at self-promotion pimping of having the best analysts....but there's got to be a number of guys out there who are better.

One I think is Peter Gammons? If he was allowed to take the ESPN handcuffs off this guy would go wild. I think he's the best.

Opinions?

Saying things like the "best" or the "greatest" usually is nothing other than a marketing tool. I'm not sure if Stone is the best analyst in baseball but he is the best on either of the sports station. He brings a lot to the table that you won't get from a Peter Gammons. He made his name by being opinionated and semi-controversial.

That's my point on Gammons, he has the ESPN albatross on his back, which regulates exactly what he wants to say and how to say it. I'm saying if he didn't, it'd be priceless analytical work.

I can't stand Peter Gammons and all his BoSox love.

I agree with the others, Steve Stone is my guy. He is the best baseball analyst in the whole universe.

He probably has the best knowledge on what is going on around the entire game. I just don't think he would take the gloves off because it would go against everything he has been his whole career.

Stoney's 4-6 slot with B&B is becoming appointment radio for me.

I've listened but I haven't been impressed the last couple of shows.

Steve has a great analysis of the mechanics of the game. However, he is not nearly plugged in enough to be considered the best when it comes to discussion about administrative management decisions. That makes him almost irrelevant when games are not being played.

Agreed. I wonder if anyone knows why he can't get a job in a baseball team's front office. He knows far to much about the mechanics and strategy of the game not to be working in it.

I always got the impression that the title of "Greatest Baseball Analyst in the World" was merely another comical (if not sarcastic) approach for a radio station that seems to pride itself on a rare sense of humor. Afterall, look what show Stone does his thing during.
