Just wondering how much the SNR feed is for the overnight v Les on the air?

Would think Les alone would geta few mnore dollars from some adveritsers? I have been told late night ads are like $25 for 30 seconds, but would still think a few Chicago places might be willign to hook on to Les versus Overnight Yelling Guy on Techny Road talking to Louis in Alabama about the Tide's Freshman QB??

Your kidding. That's it. Jeez Big Fan I'll kick in a couple bucks if you want to advertise this site on the Score. I don't think Mitch would allow it even if you paid $50 bucks.

This guy who's on SNR is horrible....kind of a good lead-in into the Mike North show in that he doesn't really like to talk sports, and instead wants to hear the good things going on his callers lives....

I have a feeling they get SNR for free. The only cost to the SCORE would be to pay an engineer.

the story goin' 'round when scr went from fox to snr was thus: snr was paying scr a small stipend to air them so they could boast about being "on in chicago" to sell their stuff elsewhere / so its not even free trade / scr is getting a little cash for it // as a side note: those all nite heavenly bodies spots were agreed to years ago for only $10 each.

Hey nostradamus... why does the Score conference room still have a poster that says "Score after dark... Murph, Williams, and Grobstein?"

Kind of stupid as it should remind employess that you once had local programming at night, but now management is too cheap so they play syndicated crap.

I'm only curious.

I wonder if Les has ever talked to SNR about a show (or vice versa). He would probably keep it more local. I don't get SNR full time, but would probably listen online if he had a timeslot

Just thinking that selling LES as a program option might make more money than SNR radio in the way of advertising dollars? Then is it enough to pay Les and overhead?

It's just such small time thinking that after the Mike North Cash Hemirage and the Sox Outbidding Nobody deal, that WSCR looks to cut corners with the overnight shows?

Les does have somewhat of a name?

BF we have discussed this before and I agree with you. However, they are never going to move away from free programming in a timeslot that they consider throwaway.

In some ways, I wonder why the SCORE ever went to 24 hours if it was going to put national programming on the air.

They went 24 hours under Ron Gleason - say what you will about him and the early management team, but they found a way to make everything work.

The goal of overnight radio is to keep you from changing the dial so that in the morning, you are there for the AM drive - the real money maker in radio. It's never abou what ratings you have - the syndicated rating services don't rate after midnight anyway.

Local sports talk keeps the listener with the station - and it served that purpose way back when - but using national synidcated stuff only gets people to turn the channel - and thereby misiing the morning drive show.

Not that anyone would actually miss the North morning show -

I don't know radio but I know facts: WSCR had their best ratings when Ron Gleason ran the joint and he always used live overnight shows as a loss-leader to keep the listeners tuned to his station. Hey I'm Not Sayin' I'm Just Sayin' over & out.

But the station signed off at sundown for the first four or five years of its existence--when Gleason was the program director.

The sundown rule wasn't Gleason's decision; it was an FCC signal ruling as the originbal Score signal (820) was shared with a clear signal station in Dallas; clear signal stations by law cannot be interfered with based on signal patterns; the ruling was based on creating a way to communicate across the country in a national emergency.

$25 for a 30-second overnight ad? Is this really true? I guess I'll have to start looking at something like this as another flyer for my business.

MM, you get what you pay for. The price means nothing if no one is listening.
