I caught Bruce Levine's take on what happened during Saturday's Sox/Cubs game when fans littered the outfield following A.J. Pierzynski's home run. While being on with Steve McMichael, Levine said the Sox fans "brought their garbage with them" to the game. McMichael asked him if it was the Sox fans who threw stuff on the field. Forgive me for not being able to quote Levine here, but he did not respond with an answer that said "no".

Mac, Jurko and Harry made fun of him today regarding the situation and even played the tape back. My question was how can he make a statement like that? If your guy hits a home run to put you ahead, you're not going to start throwing garbage on the field. It had to be Cub fans whose frustration level with the team just reached an all time high.

I've always thought that Bruce has done a good job, but lately he's become a little course with on air hosts and comments such as this one. Anyone know what the deal is?

Silvy tonight played something from Bruce from over the weekend, I assume... Bruce kissing ass to someone important... I think it might have been Baker.

Yes... Levine lately is getting A LOT worse with his bias VERY obvious and now I don't like it. Time to have either Chris Boden or Carmen DeFalco move their way on in on the baseball beat.

I heard this too. Then Dusty was interviewing Len Kasper and Kasper defended Dusty for not arguing that Pierre play at the plate. Bruce said he should have argued the play and was very critical of Dusty. Hey Bruce there's your example of Dusty not doing everything he can. He such a kiss ass.

Bruce doesn't care about losing credibility with his listeners. He just want to be buddies with players and coaches. That's sad.

It kind of sucks Bruce is the way he is, because there is a lot he disagrees with that Cubs management does and just like Beardown said, as soon as he interviews these guys he tells them how great they are. If he could get over the hump of sucking up, maybe he could be the guy to get these guys on and then grill them live on air and see what kind of bullshit spews out of their mouths. Notice how these guys stay away from anyone who might be critical of them. Examples: Mike Murphy, Boers and Bernstein, and Silvy. All of those guys have had history of asking tough questions and calling out their guests. Those Cub management types always steer clear of anything that might be a little uncomfortable when it comes to interviews. They're the biggest cowards associated with that team. The players do those interviews...and take the fall. But God forbid one of those guys do a real interview (I'm not talking Mike and Mike) in this city and answer questions like a man.

The thing to keep in mind is, Levine could be trying to butter the guy up, trying to lower his defenses. Which could work if you get something embarassing out of Baker, but it can just as easily backfire if he doesn't say anything of import. (And all the audience remembers is the wheddeling.) Didn't hear the interview, so I can't say which it was...

The thing of it is, with Dusty, he did as much "nothing" now as when the Cubs were winning. The only thing different were better players, playing better, winning games.

In terms of suck-up, who's worse? Ofman or Bruuuce?

Mike Murphy? Asking tough questions!? Puhleeze! Apparently the party started early at WR's house today.

(s)Murph had Jim Hendry on in May. It was nothing more than a 15 minute knob job. Murph even made a point of saying that others have already asked the tough questions, so he wouldn't. He's a fucking joke! He talks the talk, then backs down when he's interviewing him.

B&B aren't much better. I've heard them rip on Phil Jackson and Parcells. Then they get them on the phone and slurp them. They will occasionally ask the tough question, and probably do it more than anyone else. However, they're quick to preface it with that, "what do we know, we're a couple of dumbasses" crap.

Eww..I stand corrected then. I thought those guys had never had those guys on before. That's a bummer. I guess the only example Ican remember is when Silvy had Reinsdorf on and the questions weren't even that big of deal in my opinion and Jerry thought it was going to be a love fest.

I've heard Murph interview Hendry, and Murph will call out some of the teams' players, and has even called the team dumb when talking with Hendry, but 1/2 of his questions are things he should be asking Dusty Baker about - why did the Cubs run in this situation, did you see which reliever was brought into the game....I don't mind those questions in a postgame show with fans, but I don't want to hear Murphy, pissed off after a game, go on with Hendry and ask him questions about 1 or 2 recent games...

this is a bit of a head scratcher for me.....
We can remember Bruce's call of "Here they come. Here they come. Here they come!" for the Sox, and then he suggests Sox fans are throwing crap on the field at Wrigs....followed by his best DB impersonation with his backpedaleding? MJH, called him out on Monday and it was pretty funny if you heard it. Seems weird though...

Heard Bruce this morning on Chet's show saying he thought it was a mix of Sox fans celebrating and Cub fans frustrated....I think that is ridiculous. The game is at Wrigley Field where at least 75% of the fans are Cub fans, and yet Bruce would lead you to believe that 1/2 of the fans who threw stuff were WhiteSox fans..
