On the day WFLD-Channel 32 confirmed the exclusive here that Corey McPherrin would be switching from evening sports anchor to morning news co-host, the Fox-owned station put out the word that his slot on the 9 p.m. weeknight newscast would be filled — at least for the foreseeable future — by weekend sports anchor Jill Carlson. The Tribune reported it. The Sun-Times reported it. Chicagoland Radio and Media reported it. Even I reported it.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

On Friday, Carlson was notified that she’s on her way out. After almost 12 years of excellent work as a sports anchor and reporter at Channel 32, sources said, her contract won’t be renewed when it expires at the end of August.

It’s the latest example of the Fox publicity machine putting out false or misleading information to the press — and then covering it up or hiding behind semantics. I swear it’s happened so many times in the last few years that I’ve lost count. (Maybe it’s time to change their slogan from “Fair and Balanced” to “Home of the Whopper.”)

meh. i can't say i'm especially bothered by this because like, quite honestly, who gives a shit who's reading them their news? i think the concept of the 10/11pm news is phasing out over the span of my generation (29) to the next one. i mean, it always makes me crack up when you catch the opening of a newscast and it's like "good evening, i'm milfy mccoquemagnette and he's the backup anchor with a name that sounds like a watered down pornstar name. warner saunders has flaming shits and is using the internet on teh toilet tonight"

moreso than many other shows, the local newsprograms feel some need to tell us where "our" anchors have gone... it's like, is there anyone out there all pissed like "GODDAMMIT WHERE IS WARNER SAUNDERS?! THIS NEWS IS TRASH UNTRUSTWORTHY AND THIS STATION HAS VIOLATED MY TRUST! I AM GOING TO FILE A LAWSUIT BECAUSE IT IS MY CORPORATE-GIVEN-RIGHT TO BE PROGRAMMED WITH DIS/MIS-INFORMATION BY A FACE THAT I CAN TRUST!!@"

at least with sports people there's more room for actual personality when they write their copy, but still, by the time the news rolls around i know the scores i care about... in the case of jill carlson, again, meh... she was kinda maybe a six beer milf, she definitely tried to be funny and charming but not egregiously overtrying... and um, she didn't strike me like a sports chick hellbent on proving her knowledge. all in all, she was very pedestrian and i wish her well.
