I just heard WSCR run a commercial that I'm pretty sure will be a problem for them. It's about some radio legislation. The ad says the new law would reduce choices or something, that Bobby Rush favors "radio freedom" and opposes the law. The ad ends, "Thank you Congressman Rush".

This is the same pattern as an ad the unions ran when Blogo proposed the I-Pass construction project. "This will create jobs and pump 5 billion into the Illinois economy. Thank you Governor Blogo". The ad had to be pulled and edited.

I think this type of ad is a campaign violation and requires that WSCR give equal time to supporters of the law.

Anybody know? Is WSCR getting itself a fine here?

The Equal time law (still in existence) means WSCR has to OFFER any political candidates running against Rush the chance to be on air. So if any opponents want to option to do it, they can pay (has to be the exact same amount) for the spot.


Not to be confused with the fairness doctrine, which was a law that required radio and TV to 'not lean one way' and 'present both sides' was a load of shit and was nullified awhile back.

I think the concept of equal time on the radio was killed w/ the Fairness Doctrine in the '80s.

Equal time during an election cycle still applies.

Almost every station plays music. There is a new proposal that would force stations to pay a licensing, like they presently do, PLUS a payment to an artist or a label every time music is played. The costs for stations would cripple them. The Score has to pay the two major licensing groups now. I forget their names though.

670 The SCORE isn't the ONLY CBS Radio-owned station playing this commercial. I've heard the same ad on the likes of 93XRT, WBBM Newsradio 780, and other stations owned by the broadcast giant. The ads I'm referring, guys, were the ones for Vegas handicapper Jeff Allen & Jim Feist. Jeff's the guy who needs decaf and Jim sounded as if he didn't need reverb...
