Kind of surprises me that he got fired. Cuz Bernstein had always said that Rongey's show did huge numbers in St. Louis.

Maybe it was just the ESPN cutbacks cuz of Covid like you mentioned.

I think the way these sports stations will go is to only have solo hosts. Why pay 2 or 3 to do the damn sports talk when you can just pay one?

Well, make him a rotating Bernstein co-host for a while, then.

Has ESPN 1000 announced the pre and post game host for the SOX?

If not, I'm sure Rongey is applying for it. Get his old job back.

I enjoyed him in that format. But the tone of the show would be quite different now. And on ESPN to boot

He was a really good guy and a pretty good pre and post host here. The job made him nutty at the end.

I'd be happy to see him back with a renewed outlook.

I’d like to see him back with Bernstein. That would be enough for me to check out that show occasionally depending on the topic. He did some guest days with Parkins a couple weeks ago so the skids have been greased for a return. Bernstein/Rongey and Parkins/Spiegel would be some good pairings for the station.

Looks like St. Louis doesn't have as many sports talk stations as it did for a while there. I think they're down to two from four or five (plus KMOX).

Rongey getting ambushed by angry, passionate Sox fans after a drubbing, taking calls post game, and trying to toe the company line was great radio. And he took a ton of unfiltered irate calls unlike ZZ Cubs. It got pretty heated. It usually ending up in him giving a sermon how "you people just don't get it".

Yes, hearing Ranger try to justify giving more DH ABs to Mark Kotsay was cringe-worthy radio.

It was like when The Score brought on Pat Mannelly to host, and he flat out refused to say that the Bears were bad or performed poorly.

I guess at least with Rongey you could tell he wanted to say it.
