Maybe his radio personality can be summed up this way - I wouldn't agree with that assessment - but I wouldn't presume to know what his character is, or what he wants out of his career. He seems to have a pretty good life. Why would he be jealous of North? Honestly, why?

All I know is that Dan is pretty fucking funny, and not just at others' expense. The goofiness of his mid-90s solo shows comes out sometimes.

Being a Douchbag is holding Berns back & keeping him from getting bigger & better employment offers. I can't think of one time that Berns was a potential candidate for a media job either in Chicago or anywhere else.

Your problem with Bernstein is he doesn't pander to simpletons.

Your hero, North, beat Bernstein out for the coveted 5-7 AM TV gig on Channel 2.

That's really what it is - a sports version of Ray Rayner. Now for some obvious Ray Rayneresque improvements:

Bugs Bunny cartoons, especially "Baseball Bugs"
Mike can handicap the turtle races
Who wouldn't like to see Mike get harassed by Chelveston the duck?
More Bugs Bunny

And that's another problem Bernsy has.

He can't convince himself of that very same lie that he keeps telling himself.

"After the kids are grown, I'll make my move."

"North is an idiot and can only get away with what he does cause he is single and has no responsibility."

"He's a meatball in a meatball town"

Like him or not, It takes big balls to do what North has done. Not everyone has them. Bernsy doesn't.

Not everyone can go sell himself like North does. Like him or not, and I personally haven't listened for years, It takes someone with a spine to walk away from what North did to strike out on his own. To swallow your pride and pitch a product and win to a company you flipped off 16 months ago.

That feeling of hunger that folks like Bernsy get, isn't for food. It's a desire to quit doing what's easy and comfortable and challenge yourself. It's the longing to actually take a chance in life.

Like I said, it's not for everyone, but for those who have had to crawl back out of the gutter by the grace of God, you know exactly what I am talking about.

Bernsy will probably never know that feeling. He'll just continue to rip the people who have done it because he can't stomach himself for not facing the fear of trying it.

I'm not a fan of bernstein, but he has nothing to be jealous of with north. North is now scrapping the bottom of the barrel. He hasn't really made any money in the last year and a half and has be conned and failed in every venture. There is NO money in this time slot, this is only to try to stay relevant, which he hasn't been in years. He has turned into a cartoon and I can't imagine anyone really being jealous of a desperate, irrelevant cartoon character.
Bernstein has a great job and isn't spiralling down hill like north has been doing.

You used the word jealous SID, I did not.

It's not jealousy. It's the difference between the guy who took the civil service job, and the one who struck out on his own. The civil service guy will always be convincing himself he did the right thing. If they actually can. Bernsy is the bitter government employee I ran into at the IRS office on Thursday. He's the angry and dismissive cop who stops you and treats you like shit. Some folks are made for these jobs, and there is nothing wrong with that. But they shouldn't stand in judgement on those who didn't take the comfortable way through life. Folks that believe that lifelong happiness is found in comfort have never really understood human nature.

What a load of pseudo-psychological BS. As a Duke grad from a well-to-do family I'm sure he could have taken the easy path to a comfortable life. Instead he chose to pursue a career path with limited opportunity and a notable rate of failure. He has not only acheived a high level of success in his chosen profession, but also worked his way up through the ranks to earn that position.

Bernsies BIO...
Dan Bernstein has been the co-host of "Boers and Bernstein" since 1999. He joined the station as a reporter/anchor in 1995.

Named "Best Sports Talker" by Chicago Magazine, he is the city's only three-category winner of the Achievement in Radio Award (Best Reporter, Best Play-by-Play and Best Talk Show).

His play-by-play experience includes five years calling DePaul basketball, and a current role with the Arena Football League's Chicago Rush. He has been a frequent guest on MSNBC, CNN and other national television networks.

Prior to joining WSCR, he spent several years broadcasting minor-league baseball and pro basketball, and was the Public Relations Director for the Raleigh Bullfrogs of the GBA and the CBA's Rockford Lightning.

He is a Deerfield native and an honors graduate of Duke University. He lives on the northwest side of Chicago with his wife and two children.

North certainly isn't my hero, but I root for guys who are the very definition of the American dream...guys who made a success of themselves because they weren't afraid to go against the grain & take risks.
As for Bernsy, I wouldn't call it pandering. Its more like treating people with respect & dignity.

if you read most of the posts on nort, most people here say they liked nort when he first started(not I) it is the last 10 yrs when the guy's ego ballooned out of control that has turned most here against him. Dontfademe.com ? This was a blatant attempt to cash in on his so-called loyal fans, basically nort said give me yer money because i'm famous and he lied about his record to make himself look better. Nort has worn out the "blue-collar, no high school education" angle. Do blue collar guys dine at Gibson's every week? No, nort had a good thing and blew it because in his mind he can do no wrong and won't listen to anyone else.

Bernsy has been doing the same thing thing for ten years. Stuck would be a better word for his career path of late.

If Bernstein could actually sell himself to a network on a regular basis, why hasn't he done it?

Thanks for defending my point Zippy.

Maybe he does not want to be anywhere else. Maybe he enjoys being "stuck" in drive time in one of the biggest markets in America, not to mention his home area.

That may be true. It wasn't however in the past.

And all I am saying is if your supposition is true, than Bernsy shouldn't be ripping North for having the gonads to try other ventures that Bernsy does not.

I've been stuck in my job then too I guess...just didn't realize it until your keen powers of observation pointed it out though. Seacrest, I disagree with many of your thoughts but at least I can usually see where you're coming from. This is kind of a stretch...even for you. :?

Bernsie's point was that it is a strange combination to have North & Jigs on a show with a financial slant given that they were major players in what turned out to be a financial fiasco. Personally I think North hasn't displayed huge gonads as much as he has been grasping at straws in order to stay relevant & it's starting to become comical in a sad sort of way. I don't wish him ill-will...but I wouldn't mind seeing him exhibit a little humility either.

Bernsy knows damn well that Terry Savage will handle the heavy lifting on the financial stuff.
Like many others, Bernsy is unable to give him credit for perservering. And asking only North for humility, and not Bernsy?

Thanks for the chuckle.

He was/is the fill-in for Dan Patrick. What job has opened that he would want?

What opportunities for career advancement have been presented to Bernsey? None.

Bob Collins, Spike O'dell, Wally Phillips, Roe Conn all have been stuck the way Bernsie is I will say a prayer for his career advancement tonight [/quote]

Comparing WSCR to the aforementioned call letters is akin to comparing a Lexus to a Yugo.

WGN and WLS are two of the most famous radio stations in the US.

O'dell, Philips and and Collins achieved the best radio job in Chicago. There is no where to go up locally from there. The best job for the last 50 years or so I might add.

Roe's job is in the top three locally.

And all I am saying is if your supposition is true, than Bernsy shouldn't be ripping North for having the gonads to try other ventures that Bernsy does not.

Kind of odd that Bernsy would comment about North's financial past when Mike made more money in his last Score contract than Bernsy has made in his entire career.

Once upon a time Mike Tyson had a lot of money.
North and Bernstein seem to be more ego driven than cash hungry at this point in time.

I am pissed off beyond belief the White Sox are operated as some sort of American League Central Banana Republic.....the damned Catch 22...they do little to improve the club during prime season ticket sales time...NOW...and turn around and blame the fans when they can't add payroll in July because they are damned boring in April and May and show a pulse in June in the Streetwise Division.

The comparison was to Bernise doing his job for a long period of time in a field were most are not that successful. Remember the Score started from scratch & most of the "experts" didn't think it would last.
