I agree whole heartedly with all the critiques of Bruce Levine who embarrasses himself as he stays true to his reputation as a shill for anyone who will talk to him. I always imagined that he probably smells like moth balls and foot powder. BUT, the one role in which David Haugh shines is when he co hosts Saturdays with Levine. He doesn't swallow Levine's BS whole. He challenges him and it makes the baseball show worth a listen.

I listen to Bruce Levine like I did Les. Strictly for comedy. Totally afraid of their own shadows sports talk. Levine has a lot of team access but delivers zero content other than shilling. Fun listen, but an embarrassment to sports journalism integrity.

All that being said, Bruce doesn't know jack shit about baseball. I used to listen just on that alone. Just to yell "Wrong!" about 3 times a week.

Sure, I appreciate Haugh using his limited brain power to whip up some basic logic to throw back at Bruce but it results in nothing. Bruce stammers a bit, says things like "sure, but that doesn't mean..." (despite it literally meaning whatever it was he was referencing) and continues on in his blind defense of how Mr. Ricketts and his family are far from cheap/Mr. Reinsdorf has a love for baseball that goes back to his boyhood days in New York with the Dodgers etc etc. Bruce is like a dull robot programmed to barf out the same crap time and time again, with zero impact from people with even halfway critical thinking brains around him (co-hosts, guests, callers etc).

I only know of 670 Bruce - was he as useless and mush-mouthed on 1000 all those years? This guy is really proof that simply sticking around, somehow some way, is way more than half the battle. It's embarassing to think that this guy is "representing" Chicago (should an out of town station ever reach out to get the local angle from a Chicago reporter). Yuck.

He was Professor Flakey to B and B until he became an important team member. B and B changed their opinion of the guy once they had to see him every day, just like with Hub

That's probably my only awareness of him pre-670, was him asking a question at a press conference and there being snickering/mocking by B&B. While I have attempted to listen to 1000 in recent years (bad), back then I had some bizarre pride in never going up the dial so I never actually heard his contributions. I'm guessing they were as useless and frustrating and current day Bruce.

Les had way more historical sports knowledge than Bruce could dream. They're both quirky, but Les was a genuinely nice guy who was just awkward. Bruce is awkward and comes off as a complete prick.

Levine told the story that he attended an MLB game with his daughter during the steroid era. She questioned the integrity of the game to him. He responded by shilling for the game and making blah blah excuses for the state of the game to his own daughter. That he'd bring up the intimate real life shilling story in the midst of his score on air Mr Reinsorf cares about the fans/Mr Ricketts shilllng was memorable for its weirdness.
