I know she was involved too, but I think Roe and Garry each said they wouldn't sign an extension without the other guy and then Roe signed one without Garry anyway. Still, don't hire your wife as an agent.
here's a good article from the time.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2004 ... -musburgerIt's worth noting she also ruined the Steve & Garry partnership. I'm sure she's a great wife and he loves her, but she really should stay out the the contract dealings as she cost him 2 (possibly 3 if we count WGN moving him out for Roe) good jobs.
Well, while she
was kinda the Yoko in that relationship, I think Dahl's alcoholism was the main factor - IIRC, the final straw was at Garry's wedding, where Steve gave a speech or something and (at least from his standpoint, jokingly) referred to her as a "Caller Bob". Really bad timing, too, as they were on the verge of a syndication deal - hell, they already had run ads in trade magazines to announce it. Oh, well - if Dahl is still bitter about Stern's success, he can only look in the mirror (stolen bits notwithstanding).
Of course, Garry's wife is an idiot - that WLS deal that they turned down would have been the best possible deal he would have ever gotten, and he would have been set well into his old age. Too bad he didn't have the foresight of the subsequent market collapse. I don't blame Conn one bit for turning his back on Meier and signing - he must have shit his pants when GM balked at the deal.
