I got stuck in the car the day they all were going off on Tom Shaer. The dumbass called in to try and fight back and got lit up for what seemed like the greatest half hour of radio.

That’s a great story. What was the fight about?

Everyone wanted to kick Shaer's ass.

He was almost totally devoid of any self awareness.

But how did it start?

I don't remember that instance specifically.

He was just an easy guy to dislike for most of the people there.

The few interactions I had with him were mostly pleasant. He is the know it all type.

I don't remember, but he was gone from the station not long thereafter.

Used to drive to hockey every Tuesday out in Merrillville and have a lot of fond memories listening to Tommy Williams. Many times he'd have a great segment on wrestling or some other random topic.

North and Big Doug doing that remote from a listener's backyard and at the end of the broadcast they were doing the play-by-play of the wet t shirt contest.

They were yelling out "quarters", "pepperonis", "nickles", etc.

McNeil and North being hungover and talking about show prep at Wag's (?) hours earlier was ridiculous.

Or North calling in drunk years later.

I think he even admitted he was driving drunk. A host on the station called in drunk driving. Awesome.

I went to Houston with a relative to watch the Cubs at Minute Maid for a weeknight series. For some reason, the Score was down there, and we stumbled upon North and Doug doing a remote from some boutique hotel a couple of blocks away. They were just sort of in a hallway off the lobby, it was 100 degrees outside, there were three people watching, and I just wanted to go take a piss.

Poor Doug looked like he would have rather been in a dorm at Rennsalear (sp?) at one of Papa Bear's training camps.

Another old time memory was Wild Bill (RIP) who was one of the few callers that Chet would consistently let through back in the 1000 days, calling Dan and Terry to talk about the Bulls.

Mike North asking Riley if he'd shave his head if the Heat could come back from an 0-3 deficit to the Bulls. Mac replayed that the other day.

It was funny. Because of the sarcastic tone in North's voice. I was hard on North in his final years at the SCORE. But he could be funny. I liked him in the early years of the SCORE. And he had a personality. Something the younger guys in sports radio don't have.

Then Riley's reaction was awesome. He was pissed.

Riley: Wow. That's something. Who do you work for, sir?

North: Da SCORE in Chicago.

Riley: That's really quite a question. That's something else. Next!!!!!

I remember at the time a lot of media people in town hated North for doing this. Fuck all of those guys. It's just sports. Let's have a little fun sometimes.

The Jason Bere song was great.

Didn't Bernstein used to say "The first boobies of spring." or "The first areolas of spring."?

Sports Jeopardy on The HFC, particularly Wild Bill -- BING! BING! BING!

The McNeil and Hanley theme song to the tune of The Munsters theme.

McNeil's yearly "Commitment to Excellence."

Bernstein solo weekend shows. He was silly and likeable then. I mean, Buffone still wanted to beat his ass, but overall he sounded like a completely different person then than he does now (or during the last 10-15+ years).

The early years of Who Ya Crappin'?

"Who Can it Be Now?" was often very entertaining.

Some of the early commercials other have mentioned -- Heavenly Bodies, Scott's Pet Shop in WESTCHESTER!, and North's ridiculous read for Luigi's of Hong Kong (the pu pu platter)

The Heavy Fuel Crew in general.

First time listening may have been Baum and Rosenbloom. Stumbled onto them. Then November 2004. High Noon. What a couple of goofs. I was hooked.

Yeah. Berstein used to say the first 80 degree day was the opening of "Boobie season". Which is fine. Then he got knocked down with that tweet. So he claimed he evolved. But he still loves boobs as much as much as he did. Ya know what, women don't mind that we love boobs. There is nothing wrong with that. They love to show them off for that very reason.

We've gotten weird as a society. We have to pretend we're not sexually attracted to women. They have to pretend they're offended over that. Neither are true. It's just what we all do now.

If we think you're pretty it doesn't mean we're gonna rape you. But that's what the Julie's of the world think. Women like that men think they're pretty. Contrary to what they say.

I was at a bar, a couple of weeks ago, bartender I've known for a while, she's married with kids, I wasn't trying to hit on her. I don't want to be with a lady with kids that aren't mine. She knows that too. But she had had a new hair style. I noticed it. Told her "I like your new hair style". She kind of blushed and said, "Thank you".

There's nothing wrong with that. Julie would call me a sexist.
