You can see this team is on the verge of being just normal bad rather than historically awful the way they have been. They have some strong pitching in the pipeline. But how can you trust this front office to make the right moves or Jerry to spend the necessary money? What do they have to build around? A couple catchers and maybe Vargas? They're going to need to go out and fill several slots and not do it on the cheap. I'm not sure they have any intention of doing that and even if they do I'm even less sure they're capable of making the right decisions.

They have squandered fairly high draft picks at an astounding rate. I don't pay much attention to MLB drafts but do other teams have this many first rounders who fail?

I saw this over the winter. Mediocre at best. Take out Rodon, and they are abysmal.

They actually rank a lot higher than I thought they would. About their ability to develop pitching, they've been doing it at least since the 90's, but recently they seem like one of the few organizations willing to take on the risk of developing pitching. Everyone else looks on it as a sucker's game.

You almost gotta get lucky and get a Buerhle or Tarik Skubal.

This goof just paid $74.98 to watch a 100 loss team and get a plastic Chinese toy depicting three fat guys, but yeah, we're the morons.

I was hot when I wrote that. I've calmed down a bit. My apologies to Chorizy. He's not really fat.

Stop talking about us but talk about us more.

I don't exactly know what the argument is. beefloaf posts links to his show here and gets some increased hits. There is no hostility.

They continue to produce pitching. Even this current rotation now looks like it has major league pitchers and there 2 studs coming probably by next season on top of that.

Vargas now looks like he's figured things out and maybe back to being a part of the next 5 years here.

They are banking this though on both Montgomery's, Chase, Vargas and both catchers. Maybe a guy like Ramos or one of these INF they got from the Dodgers over the next 2 years, but, even if all of these players work out, it's still missing short a few players which you thnk would need to be free agents.

There is no evidence that they will keep any of these once it's time to pay them, and certainly not the pitchers. White Sox still don't do long-term deals on pitching so I can see them remaining focused on pitching depth in the years to come given their self-imposed financial limitations

Yeah, I don't really get why you and I would be morons for being unhappy that our team has willfully been made terrible and there is no real hope on the horizon.

I've gone to a lot of Sox games in my life. I'm comfortable saying I've gone to more than most people on White Sox Twitter. But it's not something I would brag about. It's just something I like(d) to do.

I've watched a lot of bad baseball at Sox Park over the years. I became a fan in 1969, for God's sake. Bobby Knoop and Duane Josephson. My issue isn't really the bad baseball. It's the "fuck you" from the Sox. At least it feels like a "fuck you" to me.

I respect those that can go to these games and have a good time. I'll still go to a few myself and I'll have a good time. But it seems to me that the Sox have given up trying to compete.

I'm over 60. How many five year rebuilds do I really have left?

I don't think he knows that there is more intelligence on this board than their podcast, or that the board has been around longer and hasn't aggressively promoted itself they way the 108 has. I listen to their podcasts--at least parts of them--from time to time, and I like them. But for them to give us the high hat is a lot like someone confidently correcting my grammar--and then getting it wrong.

I like 'em, and I appreciate the interest they stir up in the Sox, but it's not like they're Peter Gammons and Jayson Stark.

To win, though, they'll need to buy pitching at some point. Some of these prospects they might might get one good year out of (a la Neal Cotts). But we know they are going to pick up parts of the scrap heap. Such a shame. JR just won't pass on.

You have good baseball thoughts, BD. Post more.

The same people who declare message boards outdated look to soxtalk for affirmation.

Sox fans are reduced to we happy few these days. Arguing about who is more relevant seems absurd.

Who are the best catcher handling pitchers today? The Mariner's catcher is supposedly good with pitchers (good at everything). Who else? I miss Karkovice (pronounced Kar-koh!-vee-chay)

Realmuto was the guy but it might be The Big Dumper now. Two way catchers

They are more likely to only be in the market for those veteran types who can fit into the middle of a rotation, but won't demand more than 3-4 year deal. Guys with good track records who are more reliable/good, but not likely to be great. We know they like to sign relievers and have been in the closer market, but, under current ownership, they won't be in competition for those top-end starters who would demand a 6-8 year deal.

A long season to go, but if they can consider Shane Smith, Davis Martin, Sean Burke, Jonathan Cannon to be MLB rotation pieces or at relievers...they aren't far off from adding Schultz/Hagen to the starting rotation (and they would consider them of those front-line guys the team currently doesn't have)...They still have a few relievers coming (Grant Taylor is getting a lot of buzz as a future closer) so this staff has the potential to have a lot of higher end option if they work out.

I would love to add 2-3 veteran pitchers though to the mix, preferably 1 front-end veteran next off-season, but don't think that's probably likely.

To win, though, they'll need to buy pitching at some point. Some of these prospects they might might get one good year out of (a la Neal Cotts). But we know they are going to pick up parts of the scrap heap. Such a shame. JR just won't pass on.

You have good baseball thoughts, BD. Post more.

It's underestimated what an all star catcher can do for you. It's one of the few things I'm happy with. Chase a game changing catcher.

I would guess that Quero and Teel (with Lee as more of a backup catcher) will rotate with C, 1B, DH (maybe OF for Teel if that's realistic) so both would be in the lineup most days, but Lee as that more traditional backup. Teel will likely be up here in the next few weeks, if not sooner.

Sox fans have no hope or expectation that they are ever going to be in competition for the best free agents nor should we be patient for a multi-year rebuild that still doesn't seem capable of producing homegrown offensive players.

They continue to produce pitching. Even this current rotation now looks like it has major league pitchers and there 2 studs coming probably by next season on top of that.

Professor Flakey was proposing trading Davis Martin to the Cubs. I'd take that risk for the right price.

Martin's name has popped up recently in a few trade rumors. Hard to say if that's just speculation for now....

He is 28 years old and under control for awhile. So I guess i can see the argument of why he wouldn't fit in here longer-term vs. a contender wanting him now. I don't think they would get much for him though so I'd prefer to keep a guy like that if he's productive and eating up innings.

Yes, I know. The two seem perfectly compatible and complementary.
