Doug Buffone is Wolverine. Courageous, tough, ageless and virtually indestructible, is there anyone on the Score roster that better personifies that than Doug Buffone?
Both Doug and Logan have lived very intense and interesting lives. Neither try to be the center of attention, but they both are fantastic storytellers.
One of my favorite things about working at the Score is the time I get to spend with Doug in Bourbonnais. When he's around the team, it elicits stories of his days playing for the Bears. Fascinating stuff like sneaking out of the dorm with Walter Payton to light an M-80 at Fred Cato's window or having to fight a possum that Dick Butkus left in on his chest while Uncle Fuzzy was sleeping. Wolverine has great stories from fighting WWII with Captain America and all his time in Asia. Storytellers have to be funny and both Doug and Logan can lighten the mood with a one-liner.
If you wanted, you could even equate Doug's days with the Bears to Wolverine's days as Weapon X.
Both men are accomplished hunters. Doug takes time every year to hunt in the Pennsylvania hinterlands. Logan may be the best natural hunter in the Marvel Universe. Both men have a keen sense of the nature that surrounds them.
If you've ever listened to Doug on the post-game show after a bad Bears loss, you can feel that it's tearing him apart. The more frustrating the loss, the harder Doug takes it. His passion and anger comes across the airwaves like no other broadcaster in Chicago. It's kinda like when Wolverine goes into "Berzerker" mode. You can't console Doug because he knows, more than most, exactly what happened in the game.
Wolverine and Doug have gruff exteriors and hearts of gold. By his allies, Wolverines is beloved. Doug gets similar adulation from everyone at the Score. Like Wolverine getting ready for battle, Doug is relentless in his prep for shows. He studies: the written word, sound, video and statistics before he's on the air.
Two cigar-smoking tough guys. I'd give Doug even odds in a fight against Logan, 55 would have the reach on him!
Next up, Mike Murphy...

Mike Murphy is Mr. Mxyzptlk. "Mxy" is one of the more intriguing and interesting characters in the D.C. Universe. He's different or it may be more appropriate to say he's unique. So is Murph.
I worked as Murph's Executive Producer for 2 years, back in the day of Murph & Fred. His style may be the most unique in Chicagoland radio. Murph gets the concept that a lot of lose in radio...he believes in sound. If you listen to his show, it's filled with not just actualities and highlights, but sound that catches your attention.
Mxy is from the 5th dimension, so his perspective on the 3rd dimension is a little different. So is Murph's. His view of what's going on in Chicago sports is very personal. And like Mxy, he likes to have a little fun with the "Powers That Be". Right now in my head I can hear the "Andy the Clown" soundbite. Mxy's whole point in coming to the 3rd dimension is because he's bored. And I think the same can be said of Murph. He's bored by what we're told be teams and players...so most days like Mxy challenging Superman, he challenges what we're told. Trying to look deeper into what is said and what's behind it.
Murph has a lot of information stored in his head. Mxy is a cosmic being and his 5th dimension intelligence keeps Superman on his toes. The D.C. universe owes a debt of gratitude to Mxy. Recently, he delayed Superman-Prime (the most selfish and evil of alternate Supermen), by changing reality..
Even though, Mxy is listed as a "villain", he really isn't. He's just interested in seeing how far he can go. It's more about fun, truth and perception. Murph's on-air theories are similar. The intent is usually not malicious. Both Mxy and Murph are so different, it leaves you wondering if their fueled by insanity or genius.
Next up, Matt Abbatacola...
