I agree with Martin up above somewhere: don't force-feed us Lar Holmes just because he's been there forever. My smoking toothless grandmothers been at Sears forever but that doesn't mean she should be doing their TV commercials.

Mitch-

This might be a redundant opionion, but if I were in charge of the lineup it would go like this:
6-10am: Keep Mulley & Handley as is, except bring back the show transition/crosstalk.
That was always the best part back in the early days.
10-2pm: Boers & Bernstein so that they can do the transition/crosstalk & "High Noon"
segment again.
2-6pm: Holmes & Murph. I think they would be a riot together, assuming that Murph
would be OK with a partner again.
6-10pm: The Drinky, Goff & whoever else show (when no Sox)

I'm sure there are reasons why this couldn't happen, but this is what I would listen to.

Thanks

I almost think that they put Laurence with hosts who never worked in radio before to make him sound better, because as long as Mitch is there, Laurence will get that slot one day soon. I dont mind Laurence, but he needs a solid partner.

I emailed Mitch just now and I am sure we will try and set something up. He was once again willing to do a live chat, I told him he could just answer up as Mac has. So he is willing to do such a chat. I am sure we will get some responses soon and yes I did try and delete some of the always appreciated comments, but in the attempt at just having questions, I figured I would do such deleteing and only keeping the real questions.

Mitch, what's your favorite pizza?

Can you explain why the SCORE has always went on the cheap as far a deep on air roster? why cant Chicago have big names onn an all sports station. These are just examples but why cant there be a JIM ROSE SHOW? MARK GIANGRECO, RICH KING, HUB ARKISH , etc. I'm sure some would suck but please they have to be better than Goff, Holmes and whatever janitorial talent you put on the air. Go find some talent, charge some advertising dollars, and give Chicago the best SPORTS talk you can provide. Chicago is not Toledo or Dekalb but somedays it sure sounds like it.

Mr. B...Touch 'em all! For a sports radio station that's been part of CBS Radio for about a decade now, 670 "The SCORE" rarely spends any corporate money to lure well known talent from outside the Chicago market to REALLY give fans the very best sports talk radio period. There are guys not doing anything right now who would jump at the chance to talk Chicago sports 24/7 on WSCR. Why aren't you spending the money and not investing it in an even better, more listenable product?

Factually speaking, Tom Shaer has a company of his own these days. He's the one who worked with Chris Singleton after his first season on the White Sox radio broadcasts with Ed Farmer. Those "Dr. Sloane" commercials he's promoted on both "The SCORE" & ESPN Radio is an example of what Tom has been doing since he couldn't quite replace Dan "the Duke" Davis as a local "SportsCenter" anchor & commentator during the "Mike & Mike" show...

1. Did Mulligan and Hanley retain their Sun Times NFL and NBA commitments?

2. If M&H are on a road in connection with their Bears and Bulls work, do you plan on using the Score bench players or will you bring them via link from a studio in the city they are in?

3. If you decided to go with the bench, can you share the preliminary roster?

4. Are you concerned that out of town studio rental fees to broadcast M&H may get so excessive on cumulative basis that the "bean counters" will start throwing red flags?

5. Is there any arrangement on who (Score of the Bright One) gets the first dibs on the scoop that Mulli
and Hanley may obtain through their sources?

6. How come you don't get on the air more often? I'm sure you had aspirations to do so in the Chunga days. I also see a potential in a show comprised of you, Paruch, and Drinky.

Mully and Hanley are doing a great job of talking Chciago Sports. Someone asked about an outdoor show, not much interest from the audience. Chauncy does a nice job.

Beardown...

Your questions about Mike..

Mike and I had a great relationship. I miss seeing him every morning at 5:20am. Things did not work out for at the score. I wish him well. He was a major part of the Score for 16.5 years. The Score will surrive and so will Mike. Hawain!

Someone asked about Laurence Holmes. I love Laurence, I truly beleive he is a star on the rise. He gets Chicago, and understands Sports Radio. I think he can challenge Chicago and its teams!

Mitch, it seems obvious to most folks on this board and I'm sure for you, that Boers immediately becomes a better host when Bernstein is away. He "wakes up" and is a very good listen, especially with Drinky. Bernstein on the other hand has consistently shown that he can do the same quality show with other hosts. Is there any chance we could see a breakup of B&B in the near future to maximize the talents of both hosts? Especially now that B&B have gotten their tails handed to them from Mac, Jurko, and Harry would you be more inclined to make a change to your signature daily show? You want to get Drinky more airtime because you think he's a good host, this gives him that chance. You'll also have the same quality show with Bernstein and another host (Paruch?), giving you 2 quality shows instead of one with B&B.

Wrong. We've heard that you love Larry, Mitch. Nobody can firgure out why. He must kiss your ass.

Larry isn't that smart. He doesn't know Chicago or good radio. He's a patronizing jack ass. Tell him to leave the Channel 5 girls alone. His lusting over them on the air is quite disturbing.

He won't challenge Chicago players. I've heard him lick Bears players on the air. His goal as a reporter was to be friends with the players.

He makes the simple complicated and the complicated simple. He just recites what he's read or has heard Bernsie say.

Thanks for showing up Mitch, but you really haven't given a answer on any of the questions. If you want to pub the station here, fine, but at least give serious answers to the legit questions that have been presented to you.

Larry's very unoriginal, and I swear, looks for opportunities to work race into the controversies. I loved today's show, he has a shocking opinion that Hester needs to be in camp. I go downstairs during lunch and read that word by word from David Haugh. Neither mens opinion shocked me that much, although Haugh wasn't selling it as "shocking."

I can understand though that you might like a younger, hipper voice (it's been asked for before) and one of color (also been asked for before.) I only ask that you get a good host. If that's Goff along Bernsie, or perhaps with Drinky, that'd be fine. Or, hell, Paruch with Bartosch would be fine, too. Somebody who won't make me want to turn the radio off

Certainly nothing that engenders ongoing in-depth discussions; I agree. I wonder how PDs figure out what their listeners think; so much hiding going on...

I don't get the "rising star" designation for Laurence. It just seems like ten years is enough time to catch on. I think my board colleagues have a lot of very valid criticisms of the shows Laurence does: more time and energy is put into presenting open phone lines as a groundbreaking and important concept than there is spent on taking the calls themselves; race relations are often uncomfortably shoehorned into discussions where they do not readily belong; there seems to be a conflict of interest in his Bears reporting (e.g., "well, I was out clubbing with Lance, and. . . " during the car crash story last summer); his interactions with Paula and Ginger from channel 5 make for uncomfortable radio at times; &c. I wonder if a lot of listeners beyond our odd little focus group recognize him as more than a stopgap. This may not be Laurence's fault so much as just the nature of the Score: the station's identity for over 16 years has been various lineups of Murphy, North, and Boers, plus Bernstein for the last nine years. I can't think of much else from the Score that's fondly remembered here. Certainly not Rick Telander or Tom Shaer. But those four guys are Score Guys, Mulligan and Hanley are Sun-Times Guys. Laurence doesn't have the same cachet that the rest of the weekday lineup has, and so it appears as a protracted fill-in show. What access, insight, or experience does he offer that other hosts don't? Why do I care about what Laurence thinks the same way I might care what Murph, Dan, or Terry thinks? Am I the only one wondering this? It's just a tough rotation to crack, and he might be typecast as a bench player, if I may employ what may be a bit of mixed-metaphor sports analogy.

Thanks for taking the time to treat this board as anything more than a collection of very odd people.

Christ!!! You really don't know how to evaluate talent, Mitch. Jeez, it seems like you loved North too. You kissed his ass over the Teddy thing. "Teddy is banned from the station." Isn't that what you said on Pappy's show? My God, that was weak, Mitch.

You probably thought the Jen Jen/Pappy dynamic was great. You probably thought North and Annie would be great.

Listen to us Mitch. We know more than you. We told you Pappy sucked long before you guys figured it out. You really never did figure that out. You asked him to come back for 800k. Larry sucks. You'll see that in the ratings with Larry.

It's obvious you're gonna give him a shot. If he doesn't work out you might take the fall. We tried to warn you.

Good thing there is an on/off switch on our radios.
