Christian Peter. Also I have no proof Mongo cuffed his ex around, but I do know her next hubby Stone Cold Steve Austin did. I wonder if alcohol was a factor?

May I bring a latin individual to the table?

Wilfredo Cordero

I think he must have read Puck's manual on hitting the missus, I think he hit his woman with a phone as well.

There was an opinion piece in today's Minneapolis paper comparing Puck to another famous 34 who died way too young -- Walter Payton. I must admit I had problems with that, being that Sweetness was my childhood idol and is still my favorite athlete of all time. Personally, I can forgive Puck's trangressions. But, still, with squarely that in mind, how can they compare the two?
Walter was in a class by himself - on and off the field. Still is, for that matter.

Speaking of latin, Sammy swings a mean bottle of rum.

Years ago, Sammy Sosa was accused of battering his wife, and a rum bottle was reportedly used.

I am so pissed at myself for not thinking of the Panther. Especially when I referenced his rum bottle tossing prowess on another thread.

Kudos to you A7X, both for bringing this up and for being mentioned on MJH today.

Oz, this wasn't a one time thing, there was a long history of physical and mental abuse.

(This is the story Deford ripped off...notice the dates)

She called the police 1 time. Her 4 allegations were made 6 days after discovering his infidelity(anger, revenge?). The reported threat on her life occured when he was over 1,000 miles from home and was not considered a threat by authorities. Kirby said the allegations were made to prevent him from seeing his children and denied all of them.

I am sure their is some truth in what both parties said, but I don't where that truth was. That's why I'll remember what he did on the field.

This is a fun game. Know your white, wife beating, athlete.

Bobby Hull comes to mind

Not all white but here's some more grist for the mill...

from http://www.digitaltermpapers.com/a993.htm

"A lady calls 911 and cries that her husband is beating her. She wants to
file a report, but then asks the dispatcher if it is going to be in the paper
the next day. When the dispatcher doesn't reply, she changes her mind about the report and hangs up (Cart). The lady was Sun Bonds, wife of all-star San Francisco Giant, Barry Bonds. Like the wives of other famous players, she was a victim of spousal abuse. Athletes are praised as heroes for what they do on the playing field, but what they do off the field is never mentioned. As a disappointed sports fan, I want to draw attention to the domestic violence cases that involve athletes. "

"Athletes have been abusing their spouses since sports were created, but not until the OJ Simpson trial has domestic violence become "the issue du jour." When Simpson was arrested on New Years Day for beating his wife, none of the newspapers reported it. When he pleaded no contest five months later, there was a small brief in the second page of The Los Angeles Times' Metro Section (Cart).

In the last three years alone the list of the accused included Dante Bichette, Barry Bonds, John Daly, Scottie Pippen, Jose Conseco, Bobby Cox, Mike Tyson, Warren Moon, Michael Cooper, Darryl Strawberry, Duane Causwell, Olden Polynice, Robert Parish, and OJ Simpson( Callahan, Sports Ilustrated). And these are only the pro athletes whose wives had the courage to report the violence. "

and this from The St Petersburg Times]

" If you follow the news, even a little, it should strike you that we are in an epidemic of domestic violence. The crimes, and the daily nature at which they occur, should make you gasp.

Allen Iverson, basketball player.

Derrick Rodgers, football player.

Scott Erickson, baseball player.

Al Unser Jr., race car driver.

Glenn Robinson, basketball player.

Those are just the recent headlines. A complete list would fill a sports almanac too large to lift and too sickening to read.

You want a tiny portion of those who have been accused? Mike Tyson. Jason Kidd. Jose Canseco. Corey Dillon. Michael Pittman. Barry Bonds. Paul Gascoine. Jim Brown. Darryl Strawberry. Lawrence Phillips. William Perry. Riddick Bowe. Warren Moon. Scottie Pippen. John Daly. Frank Mayweather Jr. Oh, and O.J. Simpson. "

a few other notable arrests (not necessarily convictions) that came up in a quickie google...

Patrick Roy
Milton Bradley
Priest Holmes
Rae Carruth
Dale Ellis

Matt O'Dwyer, Jumbo Elliot, and Keith Millard seem to be coming to mind for some reason, though I can't pinpoint what their troubles were (if they were woman beating incidents or not), and I know Millard was a D-Linemen, and WTF is in the water in Minnesota that it always seems to be up there...Millard, Puckett, Warren Moon, the Boat Trip....

dumb jets odwyer & elliot & jason fabini were in a bar fight and elliot got arrested for swinging his dick in the ladies room. if only it was odwyer then we could use the kessler-cousin-angle on dick-swinging! LOL
