there is not a chance in hell one is more productive in 8 hours at home then they would be at work.

if you have the opportunity to work at the office and chose not to, it's laziness.

Eh I guess it depends who you are. I work longer hours and am more productive at home.

No commute so no leaving the office early to beat traffic. No hour lunches etc. I do miss the socialization aspect of an office but don't act like people in the office are constantly working and not fucking off just because they are in a cubicle.

That's possible. It depends a lot on the person and the demands of your job.

That's just wrong. If you can't work from home and get your job done then that's one thing but plenty of others find a way to do it.

If utility workers decided to "work when they wanted," she would be the first person bitching that they are essential and they need to report every day.

"Writing" and podcasts are something that can easily be done from home.

That's the flip side. Because we're all on Teams, if you're online at home, even if you select "away" or "DND" it's irrelevant to other co-workers and they still message you expecting you to answer their needs. So you never break away and find yourself working all night.

  you keep saying this, but we both know its a load of BS.

I was a covid baby because I wore a mask starting in May when it became a State mandate? Because I stayed home for the two weeks we were told to stay home in March?

Seriously, WTF are you talking about?

Been living my life since late March with the only difference being that I wear the mask in public like 99% of the other people.

I also played hockey 3x a week with no mask surrounded by guys with no masks from June till I hurt my back in November. Would a scared Covid baby do that?

It's a wash for me. Same either or. I like working remotely and I like being in the office. I go with whatever the company says I have to do. In an ideal world, yes remote 1-2 days a week would be fantastic.....the removal of commuting is huge. I wouldn't lose any sleep over not being able to work remotely, but it's been proven over the last year the model works quite effectively. I can say with 100% honesty and objectivity, my wife works MORE being at home. There's less distractions. Me....I can get distracted either way

I hope Julie is good with lowered pay for the privilege of having two offices to use whenever she feels like it.

It’s not like it’s free for a company to provide WFH connectivity. There’s much more security needed, bandwidth, configuration, and way more IT support.

If a company can shut your office down, maybe. But if you need a place to sit and read Twitter when your dog is getting annoying, you ain’t getting paid like a 5 day in the office-type.

Aren't I paying for my bandwidth?

My work laptop was expensive, I looked it up, but that's not on my conscience that they spent that much to issue me what's effectively a typewriter with wi-fi.

Mostly progressive people: Professional sporting events rarely, if ever, pay their own freight in local taxes, and certainly don't cover the cost to state and local authorities in the lost opportunity to do something more worthwhile with the land these events occupy, they ALWAYS bring a loss to taxpayers.

Mostly those same people: MOVE THIS PROFESSIONAL SPORTING EVENT OUT OF THE STATE TO TEACH THE LEGISLATURE A LESSON!!!

sorry...I don't think working in your jammies, Zubaz's, or Adidas warmups is as productive as going to the office.

now, i do consider access to files, internet, your server, etc...

but, still. go back to fucking work.

or just stay in your bubble forever. whatever.

I've seen both sides of it. I think I'd be less productive in an office setting. I was a shitty student and I'd be a shitty office worker. I get my work done remotely and no one gets on me. But I'm very much an introvert. I think this has been hell on extroverts. If you have to lead a team and you can't be there to run herd on the people who need it most, that's tough to be on the hook for. Sales from home has to suck.

The bandwidth isn't as costly as the back-end security software and support.

But, if you are connecting via company VPN and accessing multiple facilities, the traffic and encryption can tax network resources if you don't have the scale to meet the number of remote users.

I can't speak to whoever would be crazy enough to give you access to a laptop in the first place.

I don't know how everyone else's WFH operates but my company just has me expense it to them, which is great as it's the Internet I've always had. I even get the unlimited gigabit fiber package with free HBO Max from AT&T so my work essentially pays for my HBO.

Do you get gigabit upload or is it like the Xfinity BS where they promise you "gigabit [download] speeds" but your upload is capped at like 25 mbps?

So this sports "journalist" doesn't know that the Masters has nothing to do with the PGA? I know not everyone follows golf closely, but the Masters is one of the biggest sporting events of the year. It's not like it's the Wells Fargo or something. She is horrible at her "job".
