I was looking forward to Mac's return to the air waves. But not this. This will not end well. Remember after his first leave he talked about how hard it was to get to work and do a radio show at 9:00am. He said he was tired, real tired. Now he will start at 5:00am? Granted he is (presumably) sober now, but still. This will not end well. Like others have said, he will now be able to talk for 5 minutes at most before going to a song or traffic update. This will not end well. I hope I'm wrong.

I assume he was real tired of the sports talk as it exists especially at the Score. Getting up doing your 10 minute blast of talk for 4-5 hours while taking your smoke break on commercial song time is probably doable. Then all day to golf and whatever. If he is still goo he isn't up till 1am partaking anymore.

Larz is such a fucking lame.

Quote:
* * As announced here last week, WDRV-FM/97.1 The Drive morning show host Steve Downes will be semi-retiring from radio next month. Despite a blog today leaking information about the probable new morning show hosts, nothing is yet set in stone at the Hubbard Broadcasting-owned station. An official announcement is not expected until later in February.

God is he a douche.

He ranks up there with O'Donnell as far as grudge holding.

I called him out on Twitter. I'll probably get blocked.

I'll certainly sample it at first. But, I know from my Steve Dahl experience this isn't likely to stay on the radar. Steve Dahl is my favorite radio personality ever and I've listened to WLS about 3 times since he took over.

I concede that Mac might still have some fire burning that Dahl does not. But, morning radio is a tough go to listen to in general as most discussion is broken up by some combination of news, weather, traffic, etc. If you throw in the occasional Rush track, I'm out.

I hope it's not that. One of the things I liked about MJH was sometimes they'd talk about other stuff, maybe it'll be more like that.

Sometimes I like classic rock. The other day I heard a Guess Who song and was rocking out.

I don't know. I'm happy for him if this is what works but I'm somehow disappointed. It's like a big letdown but I'm not sure what I expected.

He probably took less to do this show. His pride wouldn't allow him to accept WSCR offer.

I would swallow my pride instead of doing a crappy show. If I couldn't then I would stay home and wait for another opportunity. Mac probably isn't hurting for cash. About 4 years ago he couldn't get out of bed for less than $600k and now he is probably barely making $100k.

Always remember Mac made ESPN relevant with MJH. They had Nothing going on .

Larz is a first-order Caller Bob. He doesn't break stories. He just waits for stations to issue press releases, then reports the press releases on his site. When he's not doing that, he's making proclamations that aren't just wrong but fantastically wrong, that haughty fuckface. He said there'd never be an alternative station in Chicago or anywhere ever again. I think Q87 launched two weeks later.

Mac isn't doing this for $100K. 3x that.

He was doing a crappy show for the last 5 years. I think if he'd have waited he'd have ended up like Dahl, Chet, or North. He's not desperated like them though, he's always drawn ratings.

Should be interesting and I'll be tuning in for sure. I'm not a fan of McNeil -- I'm probably more put off by the slobnobbers here than anything else -- but if any station can provide an entertaining mix of talk in the morning, without traffic and weather updates every 10 minutes, I'm game. Also if it turns into McNeil = Dahl, McMurray = Boers then I will probably not last long. Definitely happy to see something new being tried, and quite frankly, timing wise, after football season is the time to strike. There's nothing to talk about in sports for a couple of months (of any great importance.)
