Finally

There's a change in the lineup at CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR-AM (670): After 15 years on Saturday mornings, Chicago radio veteran (and one of the original hosts of the Score) Dave Baum is shifting to fill-in status.
Replacing him from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturdays, starting this weekend, will be a trio of hosts -- Laurence Holmes, Zach Zaidman and Matt Abbatacola.

Baum's co-host, Steve Olken, will continue to deliver sports updates on weekends.

I would have liked to see Paruch get that slot.

Midge, I hope they have bigger plans for the King than Saturday morning.

Paruch is already a regular weekend guy. He does a solo mid day show on Sat and Sun.

Once the Sox start playing regularly I'm sure they'll mix and match all of these guys around the Sox games.

Is this also the end of Steve Olken?

Really quite simple. As an original host at SCR, Baum was highest paid by shift at the station. SCR has seen ratings and revenues increase, but their costs have risen at a higher rate. ( See no baseball expert in spring training, no North Show in Vegas as further examples.)

They will be able to put on a Saturday morning show for a quarter of the money and save between 35 and 40K per year.

I'm no math whiz, Seacrest, but are you seriously trying to say that Baum was getting over $1000 a week for doing that one Saturday show?

What I'm saying is Baum and Olken were per diem, and the other three are salaried.

Seacrest, I still have a hard time believing that Baum & Olken were making a combined $800 per week. Seems extremely high for one, single Saturday shift, don't you think?
$800 per shift works out to be $4,000 a week - $200k+ - for a five day gig.
No way that Baum & Olken are worth anywhere near that figure.

Oh thank God that show is done.

I work Saturday mornings, and I swear, when I get in the car and flip them on, it was painful. It was like listening to Don Wade on a Saturday.

GAH!

That is not how per diem rates are factored shmed. You would be surprised at how many guys make more than $400 per show to do fill in at SCR. And none of them are the aforementioned three. That show cost the SCR at least 30K per year. Perhaps as much as 35-40K as I originally stated.

The fill in work is also done mostly by that group and Paruch. That is why you are hearing so much more of Paruch, who I like, but the fact remains he is cheap money to SCR. Those White Sox rights aren't cheap and does anyone think that Pappy is giving them a rebate.

Seacrest -

I've heard of weekenders pulling in $150 to $200 per shift.
Not all, but some.

Schmed:

Baum was offered the morning show at SCR years ago, and turned it down because he didn't like the paper that they were offering.

$200 a shift would be in the range that Olken was paid. Now that he is going to do only updates, back to a C-Note. Drinky or any of the others would love to get $200 per shift, any day that they are on.

WLS was paying more than that 15 years ago.

Steve Olken seems like a good guy.

Wow Drinky. It's that much worse. How pissed would you be Drinky if that fossil Baum got 800 per show to your 150?

They got you though Drinky. It's not like your gonna say no to whatever they offer. They'll just get some other guy more then happy to take it. It's all a try out and you want the exposure. I also think they cut back because Pappy gets a shit load for producing nothing.

I wish drinky well with his new spot, but I hope he lightens up on the B&B confrontational style. I get enough of that between those two and Holmes. That's what makes Paruch such a breath of fresh air. He's one of the few guys on the station who's not trying to do a B&B knockoff routine.

As long as Lou Canellis never gets his creepy ass near a mic again, I'll be relatively happy.
