Where are these guys these days? Still on the radio somewhere? I googled and it shows some are doing podcasts. Steve and Gary ever make up? Kev still doing Jim Shorts? I'm sure there is a market out there for these guys. |

Garry is podcast only; not sure if/when he will find a spot. Matthews is doing podcasts also (on Dahl's network) and I think something with wgn.fm |

Yeah, he was for several years. Was diagnosed with MS a while back, don't know if he had to cut back or just coincidence. |

The irony. These guys would make fun of WGN all the time but when they turned geezers they all worked there. Eddie Schwartz gets the last laugh from beyond the grave! |

i didnt know it was a student pilot. Death and legacy Main article: 2000 Zion mid-air collision Collins died in the afternoon of February 8, 2000, after his and a student pilot's plane collided upon approach to the runway at the Waukegan Regional Airport in Waukegan, Illinois. The student pilot, Sharon Hock, was directly below him, and they were unaware of each other's presence until the collision. Collins attempted to steer his plane to a safe landing, but it crashed and burned atop a nearby hospital, killing him and a passenger and injuring five people on the ground .[1][5] The student pilot also crashed three blocks away and died. The official report indicated that the control tower personnel were unable to observe or communicate the perilous situation until it was too late. Many of Bob Collins' friends and co-workers worked in Bob's memory to have radar and other safety tools installed at the Waukegan Regional Airport to prevent further tragedies. WGN held a memorial radio show, much of which was captured for a CD that was sold to benefit his favorite charities, the WGN Radio Neediest Kids Fund and the Salvation Army.[cita ======== http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2007 ... lins-crash U.S. District Judge John Darrah is to decide the case. Government lawyers have blamed Collins for the crash, saying he gave inaccurate reports of his position in the minutes before the collision. But attorneys for the victims contend an air-traffic controller at the Waukegan tower was at fault for improperly spacing the planes. The government also has alleged that Collins' diabetes "impaired his ability to see and evaluate the threat and react accordingly." Christine Collins disputed that her husband's diabetes impaired his vision or affected his alertness. She said he was an active person who enjoyed snow skiing and snowmobiling, target shooting, riding motorcycles and bicycles and traveling in addition to flying. She also said he frequently bought new eyeglasses. She also took issue with any suggestion that her husband was contemplating retirement. She said he considered jumping to a rival radio station for more money but decided against it because "he was happy every day at WGN. He knew he was lucky." WGN is owned by Tribune Co., which also owns the Chicago Tribune. Collins said the 13-year age difference with her husband became meaningless once their relationship became serious. But she recalled how her husband proposed to her in the parking lot of a motorcycle shop after he and a friend had decided it was time for him to pop the question. "It was not romantic," she said with a laugh. Seven years after his death, Collins said she still wears her wedding ring. "Just because he didn't come home one day doesn't mean we're still not married in my head and my heart," she said. Government lawyers had no questions for either woman. |

HOLY SHIT I didnt know it was that big of a plane Collins flew. From the webpage : https://cbschicago.files.wordpress.com/ ... 400773.jpg Poor student pilot's plane must have been crushed under Bob's. |

Bob Collins always kept a bottle of Jack Daniel's Whiskey in his desk at WGN Radio. After Bob's death, his best pal and coworker, Orion Samuelson, took it while cleaning out his stuff. Every year on what would have been Uncle Bobby's birthday, Orion would toast his pal with the JD. Obviously, he has refilled the bottle several times over the years but it is the original bottle that has never gone dry to this day. The morning show has toasted Collins several times on the air at WGN for his birthday. They always play this gem afterwards... start at 6:44 on link. Ironically, this was part of his show the day of the plane crash. http://wgnradio.com/2015/02/08/bob-coll ... e-learned/ |

I think Dahl is still making his money despite his lagging popularity. He has a show on WLS and a podcast. He started out that podcast when another station he was on switched formats and was paying him a pretty good salary just to be off the air for at least a couple of years. You can tell the show is pretty low rent though as his sidekick is some kid who sounds like Beavis and Butthead. I listen once in a long while for nostalgic purposes. He now plays golf and is a country club guy after years of railing against it. The problem with funny drunks is that they either have to clean up or die. Meier can eat a bag of dicks. That guy has ruined many radio shows in this city with his arrogance and by letting his wife be his agent. He is older than Dahl so he has to be pushing 65 now. Kevin was both a genius and insane. He was destined to burn out. He has a show on Dahl's podcast network but I have never listened. |

I can remember summer days driving around with my dad while he drank Old Style and listened to Kevin Matthews. It was a different time. Jim Shorts used to make me laugh so f'n hard. |

Garry Meier acknowledged this when he was on with Milt a few years ago where Milt had a bunch of other WGN hosts on with him to talk about the year in radio. He laughed about the fact that he and Dahl used to trash the station regularly and he found it funny that he ended up there. Then the rest of the program turned into a Metheny hate fest since just about everyone at the station hated him. |

Meier's Eddie Schwartz imitation was golden. As soon as he started it I laughed and missed much of what he said. |
