ESPN did a feature on the history of the Bleacher Bums before the Cards-Cubs game. They spoke directly to Murph. 2 minutes of national face time. http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=20137409 |

Wow, you can just send this tape to cooperstown, and the tv hall of fame, excellent work by Spain, love how she gets her huge rack in a picture at the end as well. When I think Bleachers, all I think of Murph and Spain, this piece sums up the history perfectly. |

The voice over audio quality on that is horrible. Was she standing in the next room when she recorded that? |

For years we were told the team was cheap and the park was a dump. They either needed a new stadium or major upgrades to the existing facility. And the spending on payroll has come with it. |

Welcome to Rickettsville: https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/r ... 3I.twitter[/quote] What can I say? The good old days, bad team, concrete useless parking lot next to stadium, a McDonalds, a doughnut shop, guys hawking merchandise, nowhere to piss, people hawking parking spaces down allies, buses everywhere with strong smell of exhaust......not exactly the greatest show on earth. Now a park with outside seating and a food/drinks replaced the dog it shop and parking lot. The place is way better for fans and players. Are prices higher...you bet and of course that sucks. How is that different for Bears, Hawks, Bulls. Everyone is doing this and this is Chicago and this is the Cubs. Stuff in this article is just bullshit. They bought the team from a Corporation for almost a Billion dollars. They write as if it was fleeced from the citizens of Wrigley. Asking for the $200 on amusement tax......they got in line behind Reinsdorf, the Bears, Wirtz and got nothing. They also paid the most into it via taxes on the tickets. The Cubs got screwed on that. And yes, the Cubs got some landmark money etc and that's so they didn't move the team to a new facility and start from scratch like the Sox do, like the UC, like tons of sports teams have done. I suppose Chicago would be better off with the Cubs in Rosemont instead of 3-million people dropping $100's of dollars over the course of just 81 days. Fuck this liberal douche, call it what it is.....just a socialist beatoff that just hates progress. |

The Cubs didn't "get nothing". Why don't you try to incorporate public streets and sidewalks into your own property and see how that works out. But Reinsdorf! |

I dunno. There seems to be MANY bars that essentially do exactly that. Bottled Blonde was recently in the news for doing so. |

Murph does look very healthy....the voice is still nails on a chalkboard. At least now he's 70 so when he speaks and acts 70 it's age appropriate. Sarah Spain.....yikes, that's quite a transformation. She does sound she smokes 2 packs a day. That Rickettsville article is stupid on MANY levels. What a douche! Here's a thought....MOVE! |

I agree. If you can afford it, you should be able to do whatever you want. If you don't like it, get rich on your own and then you too can capture public spaces for your own benefit. |

But area residents can and will vote to take away the licenses of establishments like that. |
