Spoke to someone on this matter and made it clear that Jimmy deCastro's hands are over the lastest Score Lineup change. Made it seemed that the moves will Mark the end of the over political talk heard on the score over the last year or so. Secondly, that's all she worte for Connor at WLS, yesterday was his last day on the Dahl show. If anyone heard the last live broadcast on the Loop Friday, he was one foot out the door. WLS' PD informed the staff. Per my source, Jimmy loves Connor, was a fan of his at the Game and GN before taking the Sox pre and post job. It looks like Connor is the clear leader in the clubhouse for mid-days with Danny B. Which sucks, Joe O got passed up again! Oh, one last nugget from my source. We know WLS is awful in the ratings and programming wise there is no clear direction. Could Johnny B return to the airwaves? It's possible... |

I just wish the hosts understood and desired to stick mainly with sports related topics since that is the point of the station. There's nothing bad about straying into other guy topics like music, movies, and grilling. But delving in politics and religion is just a complete turn off for a genre that is supposed to be an escape. |

I guess I hope that in this latest era that no longer makes us angry, frightened, hateful, racist cavemen. |

I'm not sure how successful DeCastro's latest forays into radio have been. Did he do well at WGN? We all know about that ill-fated sports talker on the far left dial. He seems to have coasted a long time on the heyday of the Loop. At least he's not a fucking douchebag, though. This site could have been a canary in a coalmine if anyone was paying attention. You have real hardcore fans that post here. MANY of them have been telling you there is a problem. If someone had listened maybe these radical changes wouldn't have been necessary. Also, and this is my opinion as someone who loves radio as a medium and has listened to a lot of it over the years, but in a way, the worst thing that ever happened to Chicago radio is Steve Dahl. And that isn't a knock on Dahl. I loved his show in the 70s and 80s more than anything. But he's a special guy. One of a kind. He was interesting enough back then that he could just throw open a mic and start talking and it would often be great. You're going on two generations of guys now who think that's the way to do it. In fact, many of them actually believe that doing show prep is a negative. Maybe it's just laziness, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Finally, try to think of some interesting questions to ask, maybe do a little research into your interview subject. The only guy in Chicago sports radio who can conduct a good interview is Silvy. Everyone else wants to impress the subject with what he knows and how great he is. Two interviews that I've heard over the years really stand out in my memory just because I know if I had been running them, how much better they would have been. And I don't know the questions to ask because I'm some kind of obsessive fan of these people. I simply read both papers everyday and consume various other forms of media and I have a decent memory. The first one was when the movie Secretariat came out and Mully interviewed Malkovich. Of course they talked a little about racing, but one's and actor and the other's a soccer fan, I don't expect them to know the game like spmack or Walt. So you let Malkovich promote his movie, talk a little about the '73 Belmont, etc. But Malkovich grew up in Benton, Illinois, the same place as Doug Collins. There's a sign there on Illinois 14 that says, "If you lived here, you'd be home." (Actually, Malkovich may be from Christopher.) Anyway, he loves basketball. Back when King had those great teams with Hamilton, Griffith, et al., he would go to gyms on the West side by himself to watch them play. That's a great conversation to have with him on sports radio if you have someone who cares enough to ask the questions. Ask about King and Sonny Cox. Ask about growing up with Doug Collins. Was Collins your boyhood hero? The other terrible interview I distinctly remember was Spiegel with Jason Narducy. Speigel had this interesting guy on and instead of asking good questions, he just fanboyed it. Terrible. Silvy should teach a class on how to conduct an interview. |

I had an interesting interaction with a local reporter from NJ on the message board Raging Bull. It had a lot of the inside and strange (often vulgar) interactions like this place. I posted about small and microcap companies. One in particular had caught my attention because its SEC filings all but assured me that the company was a complete fraud. I found the NJ reporter because she had written a few articles about the major shareholder funding the company. I reached out to her to see if she wanted to investigate the fraud. I made the mistake of pointing her to the Raging Bull message board for the company. It completely destroyed my credibility. When outsiders view message boards like this, they just see it as collection of disjointed internet dummies that use poor grammar and foul language. The best part of the story is the Chris Christie eventually put the major shareholder in jail. I was at least two years ahead of it. http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/08/morris_county_developer_salkin.html |

If WLS decides that this conservative dayblock isn't getting the listeners and/or is costing them too much (disclaimer: I honestly have no idea what Rush pulls in ratings wise or the guy who is on before him, or how much WLS is paying for their syndication) then a move to bring Buzz and Johnny back in seems like a natural fit, assuming they can adjust the time wheel to give Brandmeier longer blocks to work in and Buzz can spare a few minutes from his kettlebell coaching to participate. BTW, Buzz is sensitive to any implication that he lied about hopping freight trains, should any of you have future interactions with him. I tend to agree with the mentality that you need to start gearing your AM stations to aging audiences because nobody new is coming in... that's not to say that you can't have a young presence involved, it just that you have guys with decades of name recognition and experience that can bring audiences in without really having to do much as a station. There's definitely a McNeil army that will start listening now to the Score that would not have before, and you have the same potential with Brandmeier. At the same time, bringing in youth like Parkins really helped keep things interesting, and it didn't sound like you were listening to a show from 1998. My big question is can McDoink come in and stand up to Bernstein, or does he end up being influenced by him enough to where he becomes another yesman and the show is just one dimensional? Moving McNeil and Parkins to afternoon drive seems to be an absolute no-brainer to me. |

RFDC wrote: So you are telling me that the guy in charge has his hands on the lineup? Shocking Considering the reports in the Trib the last few days, Mitch was one-upped by his boss. We'll see rotating host 10-Midnight now. Little if any Julie and Maggggggggie show. Parkin's side gal Leila Rahimi will be on the Score in no time. Would like to see Anthony Heron on, 3 man with Danny and Connor. Was told from a source that one of AH's gig's out west is a good one during football season(paid quite well) could require him to miss during the tail end of the week. But maybe if Jimmy offers him the right deal, I could easily see him hosting on the Score. Jimmy, looking for young talented non SJW Hispanic broadcasters in the city? They're out there and I can fill you in. |
