March 1st-28th: https://ratings.radio-online.com/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb005

Score went down two tenths (BLAME MAC!!! FREE JASON!!!), the Loop predictably fell off a cliff with the flip to Christian rock, Big 95.5 continues to wither away and die at 1.5 to US99's 3.9, and 720 with its boring daytime lineup and the Blackhawks playing out the string dropped to an unprecedented low of 2.2. Entercom is reporting XRT as Alternative instead of AAA, hopefully not a sign of things to come.

If you think the ratings here stink, take a look at WFAN in New York!

For the first time in over a decade the fan lost in afternoon drive to their ESPN rival. F A N new afternoon show is awful! Bart Scott talking early season Yankees and Mets is like listening to paint dry. The point I'm making is that both Entercom (CBS) sports station in the top markets in the country dropped the ball on line up changes. The score fumbled TWICE in less than 2 years! First with B and G and now this latest shit show.

The Score will suffer during mid days. Pairing Dan with Connor was a dumb choice. Some around the score hallways know it too! Looking forward to next months ratings to see the head to head against Kap from 9-12. 2 Dan's in the afternoon sounds ok. But I honestly would have moved Parkins and Matty to afternoons. I know Jimmy loves Mac and it's Jimmy's show now, but with Mac's vocal issues(excuse while I puff down my USA Gold) I'm worried 2 Dan's in the afternoon will be short lived.

Too bad Chicago doesn't have a 3rd talker(Denver has 5 for Pete sake!). Would have love to see how younger talent in this city would fare against SCR AND MVP. There's one, in particular, killing it in Vegas and I know would kill it in Chicago.

The Score should be thankful they're not WLS-AM and they're shit show. According to Feeder, Steve Dahl afternoon is ranked 25th!!!!!

My idea was always to anchor a third sports talker with McNeil in the afternoons and fill the rest of the lineup with young guys aimed at siphoning off some of that Barstool heat.

Explain how this is possible.

I don't remember Mac coming up in the conversation, but I know we discussed something like a WSCR2 that would be the younger, FM hot-talk version of the Score while the AM one stuck to sports. I'll try to find it.

St. Louis has five too, or did at one point. Figure that a lot of them are gonna be most/all satellite-delivered, so they merely exist and clear the market for the network, it's taken on faith that Denver loves SPORTS, so they just plod along and no one cares. You have your ESPN, your Fox Sports Radio (probably bigger out west), maybe your CBS Sports Radio. I think they have one sports talk station that's owned by the Broncos and accordingly acts as a year-round house organ for them, and then another that's owned by Kroenke.

5 sports talkers is about as useful as tits on a bull.

Yeah, and the Denver market is what, one-third the size of Chicago? (And one-third of that is people who moved from Chicago.) At least two of their five sports talkers must be way at the right of the AM dial and not on anyone's radar.

From the interestingly titled "Goff has a 3 year deal,"

Curious Hair wrote:
Come to think of it, and I'm not totally sure because it was just before my time, but wasn't the original botched-launch WMVP an attempt at mixing hot-talk with sports? The interregnum between LoopAM1000 and ESPN 1000 was a complete scatterbrained mess but I'm pretty sure there was some point at which they had Steve Dahl, Bruce Wolf, Richard Roeper, and Steve Cochran, but also sports. I think they tried to go all-sports at first but then reeled back on it a little.

At the risk of self-cannibalization, CBS could have used CKG as kind of the Score's ESPN2, where they go for a younger demo and let guys try different stuff, buuuut

1) costs money

2) the idea of a "younger, hipper" alternative to the Score is tying my brain into knots, because the current Score is an AM stick (does anyone under age 30 even know AM exists?) with middle-aged men who co-opt the rhetoric of a social-justice movement led by college students and twentysomethings who live on Twitter. What would you do here? move Deadspin Radio to FM and remand the AM to Mac and North? Keep Senor, Goff, Rozner, and Spiegel on AM but make them act their age? And if "younger, hipper" sports talk is just reading Deadspin for show prep, do we want it in the first place?

Ten months later, they did give the Score back to Mac and they did make Senor stop doing a culture-war show.

Four of the 5 sport talkers in Denver are mostly live and local
It's been a real expansion over the years, I give it a few more before a few of them bow out.

1.1043 is the top dog- covers broncos, NFL, and mixed with the local teams
2.AM 760 the I heart station is a niche station focusing only on the broncos, mixed with NFL and that's it.
3.Altitude is a local RSN that added sports radio to their mix- flagship of the nuggets, avs, they'll talk broncos and Rockies as well.
4. A non rated sports talker called Mile high sports.

The only national station is an am ESPN radio one.

Again, Denver does not need 4 local sport talkers. I'd capped it at 3. There's no reason why Chicagoland cannot have the same.

It's too bad 105.5 the ticket bleeds with Star 105 and the other 105 in the area. If only Matt at CKG would get his head out of his ass and at least have a morning sports talker to grab a piece of the scores pie(will take a consultation fee)

With sports betting on the horizon and IL in line to legalize it, given the amount of non bear NFL Fan's in this market, and the mostly boring sport yappers in this town, there's no reason why a 3rd talker can't put those stations on it's heels!

That guy doesn't know a single thing about running a radio station.

Dubiel's livin' the dream. Most people have to toil for years and climb the ladder before they can make a hash of a radio station nobody listens to. He cut right to the chase.

"The Ticket" is a Class A FM station that radiates 1300 Watts with a stick in Braidwood. The signal barely covers Joliet. Their max is technically 6000W at 330 feet, but with Chicago so close by I doubt they can get FCC approval to turn up the power (if they need that kind of approval, I don't know).

Too close to 105.1 and 105.9 to turn up the power.

Our favorite station, WBMX 104.3 bounced back very nicely. Keep those Big Pun Still Not a Player spins going, Curious!

"I'm not a player, I just crush a lot" feels like it would be in a nerdy white guy's Twitter profile after "Consultant, Liberal, Dad, not necessarily in that order" and before "Opinions are not those of my employer."

But yeah I'm tired of that song too. "Ghetto Superstar," which was the first song I remember thinking "man, I am really getting tired of this song" about, is just as tiring now as it was the first time around. The first song whose ultra-heavy rotation I actually took notes on as a kid, "Satisfy You" by Puff Daddy, has yet to come burbling back to the surface. The consultants who put the library together must not have thought it was very good. They were right. It uses the same sample as "I've Got 5 On It" but with a worse song, typical Puff Daddy.
