Oh great the Matt Dubiel Vanity Project is at it again, this definitely wont be anything but an unmitigated shitshow. Let's all discuss this a lot.

Dan Patrick is on 1530 AM but they're still playing music on 102.3 FM.

Goff found a new job already.

Good for him.

How do they get away with a translator in Elmhurst at 102.3 with a full-powered signal at 102.3 in Waukegan? XLC makes it to at least Schaumburg. Translators be gone.

I wonder if Goff signed up to do an update during one of the shows?

They really dug deep into the promotional budget for that.

LOTS of dead air coming back from breaks. Nearly 90 seconds worth around 9:46. McKnight and Hub are on WSCR and Kap is probably one-upping people on AM1000 so, sadly, this is my best option.

This is pretty cool. Dan Patrick is far superior to anything else in Chicago on in the mornings.

Isn't his show already simulcast on TV?

Yeah, but a lot of people can't watch it there.

This format will last three months before Dubiel gets bored and flips it to, I dunno, what's another defunct Chicago radio station whose intellectual property he can squat on? He already used WCKG, WBMX, and Q101. 1530 WMAQ? Give us 22 minutes, we'll give you Alex Jones calling frogs gay?

This station sounds like a good place for Finfer to work, maybe he could produce a show for Harry T and Spike Manton, a revival of the "Crease Monkeys" or something?

With NHL playoffs going on now, seems like a perfect time!

Did something happen with Alex Jones that Dubiel gave up his commitment to him? I remember reading that he applied to move his FM stick to Trump Tower (where else?) so he could bring conspiracy theories about chemtrails and (((globalists))) to Chicago proper.

A whole station dedicated to Zoltar's Industrial Zone would be my preference. Failing that, bring back 92.7 The Bear.

I have been trying to track down WCBR airchecks or even playlists for years now with very little luck. All I've found was a reunion show that some of the hosts did on Northwestern radio a few years ago and now the link is dead. All I remember was they talked about liking the song "Reservation Road" by Bill Miller. It is pretty good in that thoughtful '90s adult-album-alternative way.

If I ever won the lottery, I'd buy 106.7 and use that as a personal toy and beam Tindersticks and Afghan Whigs songs to the northwest burbs.

WCBR was lot of Pavement and Dinosaur Jr. Lot of local/regional flannel bands too.

I wouldn't have been cool enough for CBR at age 8-9 anyway, but my parents discouraged me from listening to the station because Darrel Peters and my grandpa didn't get along. I'd eventually listen to 92.7 a lot when it became the first Kiss FM, but Peters had sold the station by then and my grandpa had died so I guess it didn't matter anymore.

Was Energy before or after Kiss?

After. When Clear Channel killed Jammin' Oldies at 103.5 and anywhere else it was, they flipped it to Kiss FM, then sued 92.7's owners for copyright infringement, despite them being there first. (Incidentally, the Kiss FM in Milwaukee has always been an Entercom station, and wouldn't you know it, Clear Channel never picked a fight there. They just called their own CHR something else.) That's when they flipped to Energy, which must have done pretty well because I've found people talking about how cool it was years after it went off the air.

After Energy I think it became Nine FM, then a simulcast of WCPT, and now it's Polish.

I used to write parodies of Feder columns on the crow_on and radio-info message boards. I wish I could find them. On the demise of Energy, I wrote one where WGN, struggling to connect with younger listeners, was reconcepting Milt Rosenberg's show to Energy 720. It got some traction from people who were only familiar with one or the other side of the joke.

I don't think the single pack of acoustic tiling is doing all that much.

Also, right off the bat letting people know that he's, putting it politely, taking cues from Barstool Sports.
