He's on the air right now. I guess technically this is his 2nd show since being fired. First time I've heard him. At first I thought it was a national show. Then I finally recognized his voice. |

Always liked Speigel. I think his days on WSCR are rapidly coming to a close, but I hope he lands on his feet somewhere. |

I heard him refer to noted American author "John Updick." Sounds like he's gunning for Connor McKnight's job with that one. |

I doubt Mac wanted to give the big baby any time. |

The station is worse off without Spiegel. Goff is about a -3.0 WAR host while Spiegs is a +1.5-2.0. I thought McKnight was the epitome of a replacement level host but he is trending downward. |

We made fun of Terry for his desultory "yeah, that's what my guy says, too" responses, but it's kind of the same now, too. Dan asks Connor some sort of leading question prefaced with "as someone who is impressively smart and who majored in English, would you agree that ___?" then Connor basically rephrases whatever Dan said but mispronounces a word. |

Except Bernstein & Spiegel would have, or could have been, an unmitigated disaster, because Spiegel doesn't know how to oppose Bernstein (and likely the inverse) without derailing a segment. They lost countless transitions to Spiegel slapping at Bernstein, and you just can't have a whole show of that replacing the ratings successes that were Spiegel & Goff and Spiegel & Parkins. And on top of all that, Bernstein & McKnight is somehow a ratings darling. |

I remember Spiegel would get himself all worked up going into transition and Bernstein would only halfheartedly engage, essentially dismissing him with a "eh, whatever..." attitude while Spiegel was sounded like he was practically frothing at the mouth. |

There were times where you just know meatpants was thinking "I got him" and Bernsie would not engage or destroy him and then meat would pout and not say anything else. |

I never wanted a Bernstein/Spiegel combo even though it would probably be better than Bernstein and McKnight. I thought the best pairings would have been Mac/Spiegel during midday and Bernstein/Parkins in the afternoons. Is Bernstein and McKnight getting good ratings? I must have missed that. |

DAC wrote: Is Bernstein and McKnight getting good ratings? I must have missed that. Yeah, someone posted a key demo ratings breakdown for the Spring, which is essentially all of the life of Bernstein & McKnight and they are doing pretty damn well, beating the competition easily. |

Makes you wonder about how many people really did give up the Score forever and ever and ever for firing Saint Jason. |

Still, the success of Bernstein & McKnight is almost jarring, to me. In my mind, that show shouldn't be doing that well, but maybe I've become just as jaded about sports talk as Dan had been until he stared into the radio abyss. |

I figure Mully and Hanley are humming along, no reason to change the station. Maybe we underestimated the extent to which Chicago really wasn't ready for Bomani Goff. |

It's inoffensive and it's more intelligent and coherent than Mully an Hanley. They just give you analysis, very little politics (although Bernstein is itching to burst over this Ohio State stuff), and no petty squabble soap opera bullshit. It's not the greatest sports talk show you ever heard, but it's far from the worst. |

Curious Hair wrote: Makes you wonder about how many people really did give up the Score forever and ever and ever for firing Saint Jason. Do you really think there's a sizeable "Goff demographic" that they lost with Jason? That would imply that there was a (young/urban?) demographic who were listening because of Jason Goff, and I just can't see that happening. I can't see a whole lot of people flipping through the AM dial and hearing Goff's dulcet tones and being like "whoa where has this been all my life?" and becoming a regular/habitual listener. Maybe if there was a lot of word of mouth marketing at rooftop establishments with bottle service? Maybe if Goff was solo doing Bomani Goff you'd have a small small chance of that, otherwise I just can't see sports talk radio as a whole (let alone the Goffsphere) attracting a lot of new listeners over the last few years who they'd be able to lose because of the departure of Jason Goff. |

Facebook and Twitter seem to be Goff's home turf. (Yeah, yeah, I know, I thought his home turf was a place on Halsted called "DL Hugely's" too.) I'm well aware that they are relatively few in number but they are very, very noisy. Like us, in a sense. Also like us, they were huge B&B fans, but while we kinda broke bad on them, these are the ones who stayed loyal through Penn-State-o-Rama and beyond. Basically, if they liked bad Boers & Bernstein, they loooooooooved Bernstein & Goff. |

Other than this board and people in the business, I think nobody, especially the average fan, really cares much about any of these radio guys. |

Nice post. There's a lot more sports talks show listeners that want boring M&H and B&M than soul-moving, SJW B&G. |
