October 11th through November 7th, which means the Cubs are completely out of survey range. Do the math: WSCR - Cubs = WSCR/2

The December book starting on November 8th also explains why that was the day the Lite FM went all-Christmas. Not a day wasted. Still in the great FM blob for one last month before they start demolishing everyone.

Me-TV FM cooled off a little bit but still near the top. If it's not obvious from them, WLS-FM, and the Drive doing great while the top 40 stations falter, young people aren't listening to the radio.

They still have WMVP doubled up and are posting higher ratings than I recall during the Goff/Spiegel days without Cubs baseball.

Call this a win for Jimmy

Interested to see the break outs for the demos over time.

They were at a 2.2 three years ago in the Spiegelngoff era. I can't find last year.

That is some drop off especially with the Bears being talk worthy.

My theory is that while the Cubs drive up ratings because you leave your radio tuned to the Score, Bulls and Illini basketball are so bad that you'll go out of your way not to hear them unintentionally.

I'm surprised the Bears aren't giving them a boost

The Bears have given them a boost, ratings are ~25-30% higher than during the same period 3 years ago, and in 2018 there are far more alternatives to terrestrial radio than there were in 2015. Staying even with 2015 would be considered a win in radio as the industry dies.

Ouch. That is quite a stretch to call it a win. I am sure the Bears are giving them a big boost but it isnt nearly enough to make up for having McKnight and Haugh on the air. I would have the station on all day long listening Bears babble but cannot stand the sound of those two so I wait until noon at the earliest to flip over to WSCR and struggle through the last hour of smart radio. Goff used to tell us not to listen but there is no need to tell people that any longer. The talent they put on makes people not listen.

Hmm, I would argue that the proliferation of audio options makes staying even a loss for a live/local talk station like the Score, because people staying loyal to terrestrial radio should be staying loyal to its content. The tumble that the top 40s have taken makes sense: Kiss and B96 aren't giving you anything that Spotify can't, and thus can't be expected to maintain their audience shares as fewer PPM carriers report that listening. But those audience shares have to go somewhere, and we're seeing them go to WLS and the Drive more than ever, two stations that were part of Chicago's traditional million-way tie at 3.1 or whatever.

From Feder:

Quote:
The most precipitous decline was at Entercom sports/talk WSCR 670-AM, which dropped from sixth place to 18th, losing 33 percent of its audience share without Chicago Cubs broadcasts to draw listeners. Hardest hit were middays and afternoons on The Score, both of which fell out of the top 10.

Did WSCR's ratings from 7 PM to Midnight take a tumble without the Cubs?

Check this out. He's got Chicago celebrities coming out of the woodwork to congratulate him.

Lauren Jiggetts...Gridiron Assassin....he's got an odd Bears postgame show. He's got it all!

I've told you for years. He's the best around. Nothing's gonna ever keep him down.

Wow. Veery good job beating an Evanston Spanish language station at a time when very few are listening to the radio anyway.

"Smart" sports talk just isn't appointment radio. Parkins is a failure as the new face of the station, just not likable.

Good for Larry. His show is good for what it is. When he is on I will give him a listen and see what is happening - TV or radio. Not many people gathered around the RCA anymore to pass the time. Those that still do are tuned into WBBM because old people only want to listen to the news.
I still dont quite get how the hell WBBM can be #2. You listen to it for 15 minutes to hear the traffic and maybe one round of news and then they just repeat. Who wants to listen to that for 5 hours?

No one listens to 780 for five hours, but everyone listens for a few minutes. They're the opposite of the Score.

This is utter crap as it completely excludes the always exciting Monday night broadcasts of the "Lovie Smith Show" from the Buffalo Wild Wings in idyllic Savoy during this time frame. Someone tweet Phil Rosenthal and Feder about this oversight, please!

I only listen to WBBM when I'm stuck in crazy traffic and it's almost an 8 and want to know if I'm going to die on the highway.

And I still miss the traffic minute half the fucking time.
