As first reported here at The CFMB by Ogie Oglethorpe, Matt Spiegel takes back the wheel driving Hit and Run on Sunday mornings on The Score.

"Excited to resume hosting @Hitandrun670, @670thescore’s venerable (not vulnerable) baseball show, Sunday mornings at 9 AM. Guest co-hosts will revolve weekly, though some of the show(s) will be solo as well. Thrilled to re-connect w/listeners about the best game on the planet.
— M@ (@MattSpiegel670) April 3, 2019"

Love Spiegs or hate him, he is Mr. Baseball at 670 AM.

Love me some Chicago Baseball so I'm looking forward to tuning in.

Best of luck, Matt!

An insult to a great game. Speigel is to baseball what botulism is to food.

Sounding good this morning. Go get 'em, Spiegs!

Love the new TWIB inspired intro.

He starts the show telling a great story about watching his older brother painting Fenway Park on the wall in his basement when they were kids.

His brother collected baseball cards and placed the individual players in positions on the wall while listening to the games. Thus, moving each team's cards in sync with game action.

Watching his older brother doing this back in the day hooked the five year old Matt Spiegel on his future passion... Baseball.

The Score should pay Rozner 2x whatever he asked for. I will give it more of a chance as it is the first show with Spiegel running it, but this is bad so far.

Good stuff with Ryan Dempster.

Funny Lou Piniella imitations/stories.

I was suspect that Dempster would be the usual over the top annoying but all in all, he was informative and entertaining with Spiegs.

Enjoyed the show.

I'm hoping that he does well. There need to be hosts who actually enjoy sports for sports sake. And sound like it.

Good stuff this morning with the Tribune's Paul Sullivan.

Sully's grandmother was Charles Comiskey's secretary and kept an eye on Comiskey Park during the winters.

 Sully tells a story about his rocky relationship with Carlos Zambrano back in the day.

Supposedly, Big Z offered a security guard one million dollars to kill Paul Sullivan. Z was angry over Sully's coverage in the paper.

According to Sullivan, they both laugh about it today.

Was that something clearly done in jest by Zambrano, or was he serious?

No kidding. Because soliciting a hit man for murder is kind of against the law. Even if the murder doesn’t happen.

I honestly don't know. I assume/hope it was in jest? He's still alive so there's that.

Sully has a very monotone delivery. However, it was in the 10 o'clock hour of this morning's H & R Show. Would be interested if anyone else heard this?

He told a lot of good Chicago baseball stories covering both sides of town. Interning for Royko, hanging out in the bleachers with Bill Veeck, interviewing Milton Bradley as he would point to the stacks of cash in his locker, etc. Definitely worth a podcast listen for that hour for sure.

Sully also said that his last time co-hosting on The Score was back in 2001 with Julie Swieca. He said something went bad and hasn't been asked back since? Never heard it so I'm not sure of details.

Heard most of it. Too bad Sully's stuff got damaged in his storage unit; sounds like he had a lot of cool stuff lost. Cool to hear about his Grandma working for Comiskey and his Frank Thomas stories. Bring him in more for old stories; only so much current stuff to talk about.

Maybe future technology will allow Speigel to be muted during podcast interviews.

I listened to two segments of hit and run this morning and about 50% of the content I heard was Spiegel busting the balls of his guest from Milwaukee sports radio over that shit Ryan Braun pulled years ago Hader's twitter feed from years ago. It made for extremely annoying radio.

Totally agree. Listened and it was like the real spiegs came out. Maybe it’s his shtick but was not good to listen to.

Just stick w talking baseball and not being a goofball.

The show was outstanding. I hear the milwaukee guy almost every day so it was perfectly in character. They were just giving each other shit. I love you actually took his tongue in cheek comments seriously and tweeted about it.

Sox television play-by-play guy, Jason Benetti sitting in with Spiegs this morning.

I like Jason. He doesn't take himself too seriously and genuinely loves the game and his team. :salut:

GREAT hour with Benetti this morning. Baseball, Sox, life and stories... Jason and Matt together make a good listen. Very much enjoyed this segment. Well done.

Agreed. It's one of the main reasons I stopped listening years ago. To a person all of the primary hosts seemed to just hated to have to talk sports. Started with North and filtered down to just about everyone else before too long.

Spiegel is good on Hit and Run.

He's good at interviewing baseball guys.

Spiegel vs. McNight? Not even close. That was the wrong move by the SCORE. As much as Spiegel has flaws. McNight is nothing as far as a personality. Spiegel has a personality. Which means you hate him at times.

But guys like McNight are worse. You don't hate him or love him. Because he's just a sports radio robot. And not even anything interesting in his personal life.

Spiegel and Bernstein would have been a good show. That would have been the right move for middays.
