What do people think?

Corny at times? Yes.

Is he the most talented sports talker? Of course not.

But I appreciate he seems to be a genuine dude.

Any serious thoughts?

He's the best. Favorite guy at the Score.

I don't see how he is not considered to be one of the most talented sports talkers, if not the most talented at the station.

He operates using genuinely well-founded analysis and observations, interviews quite well (and prepares well for the same) has big-team experience with his Cubs and Bears dealings, possesses a highly developed sense of humor and a quick and acerbic wit, and he is an incredible impressionist.

Lastly, his bouts with alcoholism only adds to his likability and relatability to the average Chicagoan. I think he can easily replace Mac once they decide to put his old ass out to pasture.

Probably the only likable guy at the score.

his style hearkens back to the golden age of the station

Never heard him go sjw. That's a plus. He's at least listenable, which is uncommon at the Score. Les always says how great friends he and Grote are. When Grote filled in for Les, he said he and Les have little interaction.

He is the only one who can make Rosenbloom sound tolerable.

The Score likes to slap an unspoken "expert" label on guys following teams. Grote though seemed to never get caught up in that. The Score's baseball "expert" Speigel was called "a student of the game" recently by Mac.

The score lacks a talented sports talker. MAC is the best of the bunch, but he has mailed it in. Everyone else is blah.

Grote seems to enjoy his job and that helps. Lawrence is my favorite at the station and that is saying a lot about how far the station has sunk.

Big fan of Grote. I don't hate Joe O, but Grote should have that slot.

I like Grote but he really needs a partner to keep him inline. The impressions can be hilarious but left unchecked it goes on way to long. He does fine with interviews. Considerably better than everyone else except possibly Bernstein if it’s a guest he respects. He seems to have decent knowledge and interest in all sports. Couldn’t go wrong launching Haugh and putting him in. Hopefully that is the plan with the pregame. Get him used to being up and engaged that early.

I think I would enjoy that. I know the rumors are there that Pat thought he was unprofessional. I know Grote is a bit of a screwball but Pat can fuck off. Lighten up Francis. You are announcing baseball games. The best broadcasts are the light hearted ones. Sports, especially baseball aren’t serious.

Grote was in the studio at 4:45am for years teasing Las, consoling Les' producer, and then doing morning updates before the Cubs stint.

He defended Jules earlier this year. Liked him up until then but that makes me question everything about him. Still sucks how he got fucked out of his dream job because grumpy old man hughes didn't like him and then kiss ass zach slipped right into his spot.

ya classic screw job. wouldn't be surprised if ZZ did it all behind his back too.

he made a honeymooners reference when he was doing the cubs his last year on the cubs beat so he will always be good in my book.

I generally agree with this assessment. I consider him to be a net positive over others when he’s substituting on a show.
