So this is your top 5 favorite hosts then?

if you are doing a real top 5 it has to include North. No way Hood and Jurko get in over North.

Correct. My list. I never listened to North.

Mac
Bernstein
North

The only real question is the other 2.

Chet may get in for being the one that basically established it but was he seemed to have jumped from job to job fairly regularly many of which weren't on radio.

What's the criteria for this list? The hosts we have enjoyed the most over the years? The most talented? Most influential?

If it's just our favorites, mine are the following:

Doug Buffone
Jim Memolo
Drinky
Dan Bernstein (pre-2001 when he made the epistemological break from populist to neoliberal)
Mark Grote or Marc Silverman
Honorable Mention: Mac, North, Grobber, Bartosh

In no particular order. Bernstein is just too scummy to be on the list. Terry could get low on B & B, but came off better. Kap & Waddle was a good show. Kap solo, his whiney producers were a rough listen. Hub, though a fill-in, on my list. Takes tons of good calls.

Agreed.

Think the 5th guy is Boers due to him being a founding member of the Score and being part of two of best shows in Chicago sports talk show history.

I don't remember the Bernstein as populist era. I only remember elitist transforming into what you call neolib.

My list

North
Mac
Chet
Boers
Bernstein

that's not a list of my favorite. That would be my list of people who have had the greatest impact, staying power and ability to draw greatest ratings both at their peak and on average

There's no doubt. He's BY FAR the best interviewer in Chicago sports radio history.

Dan Hampton deserves consideration due exclusively to the comic brilliance of the (sadly) short-lived Hamp & Holmes show.

He's also knowledgeable and a bit of a meatball. He's a great host and great fit for his job. He really grew into it to.

Guys like Hampton and McMichael deserve a place at the Score, even if it's just small doses. I'd rather listen to their malaprops and funny stories than Parkins doing a deep dive into Zach Lavine's stats. There's room for both but it seems they are too focused on the latter.

I started listening to sports radio in the spring of 2003 so I may be missing a few golden years.

My list in order:

1. North
2. Bernstein (Before Penn State)
3. Hood
4. Parkins
5. TBD

Wise Guys was the first show that I heard and I became a Scorehead that day. All he windshield time I had didn't hurt either.

Probably the most accurate list here Vito. This is spot on. Did you work with all of these guys too?

Chet - he was the first modern star of Chicago sports radio. Without Chet there would be no Score.
North - He took it to another level - made the Score in what it was in it's glory - a fan / caller based station.
Mac - a superstar. Whoever he is with he makes them better. Lot of flaws but that's why we listen to him. He's like one of us on the radio in a way.
Murph - most professional and prepared.
Hub - savvy businessman and survivor. He's a company man and he's played all the cards right.

Agreed. If its "best of" in terms of history its these four without question.

My favorites would be:
Mac
Jurko/Silvy
John Rooney
Buffone/OB
