Good luck to him. He had a great run in chicago sports radio. What's the deal w/ AM1000? The way his tweet read is like he said FU to AM 1000 and I'm done. Sort of like when Murph suddenly retired. Does AM1000 treat their people like shit? it sounds like it. |

Don't know if his contract was coming up or not but maybe they told him they weren't going to renew it. |

But he had a really tough job most of his career. He was paired up so many years w/ Murph and had to take all of Murph's faults. I think he also was matched up with Mike North for some time and that was probably no fun. he just had to agree w North on the show - which he did and which was smart for him. I liked Fred with Murph but he was great when he was solo. Always listening to him it was like one of your buddies got a radio show and was broadcasting specially to you. I also liked his baseball knowledge. All the greats are retiring sadly. |

I haven't listened too much to Fred lately, but he is a voice of my childhood from Sports Phone. When my dad would get together with his brothers on a weekend night, all of us cousins in our early teens would call Sports Phone from whatever house we were at that time to get updates. |

Wasn't Fred just working weekends for the past 10 years or so? So he's basically been retired. |

I used to call Sports Phone. Long distance. My parents would get mad. I hated numbers with lots of 9s and 7s and 6s. It took so long to dial them. |

George Offman was a sports phone veteran too. Alot of the early score guys all came from sports phone. |

Fred does a long-winded podcast on the mickey mouse network Schuster and Les were on. The ESPN 1000 guys best trait is they're not Score vermin. |

Have Fred and Hanley on this morning here at my dad's place. Very comfortable radio for a day where there isn't much going on sports-wise. He is talking with Hanley now about his decision to retire. |

If he'd never become a parrot of the worst of North, I'd still respect his career. |

He just said 'yes mike' a million times on the show. he had to feed his family land his bosses assigned him a position - what else do you want him to do? |

Murph and Fred pulled THE BEST ratings on the Score for MULTIPLE years. When Fred was with Murph he got paid really well. Hate Murph all you want, but the guy made everyone on his show money. All way way to the lowest producer. And Fred was a big part of that success. So when they put him with North he was suppose to say no to a big salary? What other choices did he have? None. All of us would have made the same choice if we were in Fred's shoes at that point of his career. |

And it's telling that you accepted Fred's willingness to lose his voice and integrity to a blowhard asswipe. |
