Post subject:  AM 1000 Signal Strength Decrease?

I apologize in advance if this has already been covered here or in another thread, but the last week or so I've had major struggles picking up AM 1000 here in the Bloomington/Normal area. Usually the signal is pretty decent through the daytime hours. Has something changed with their transmission facilities or are they just a little behind on their ComEd bill?

1000 is like the shittiest 50,000-watt station in America.

I always have trouble here in the People's Republic. I can only pick it up while driving. They need to feed the hamster powering the transmitter.

I've had trouble with it in Bolingbrook and Naperville for some reason. I agree with Curious.

Radio signals are directional in nature.

MVP is strongest going to the east and northeast I believe. It is not clear channel at night like WGN, WBBM and the Score are.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. Hopefully they will direct some of the wattage back to the south and southwest of the big city sometime soon. In the interim, I'll be reminded of driving all around central Illinois back in the day trying to reel in the signal from 820......and eventually 1160.....

Always had problems out here in Naperville/Aurora... the signal will fade in and out with a lot of distortion... usually around 5:30-6 pm, so I have to switch over to the B&B show. Then periodically overnight, the signal will disappear for about a second, then pop back on. Dunno what the deal is there, but it qualifies as annoying.

Terrible signal going North on 59. Probably due to the low terrain.

i believe around 5:15 or so the signal "points" east.

you can usually hear your radio 'crackle' when it happens.
