And in Goff fashion, it's after 77 minutes talking about himself

https://open.spotify.com/episode/6YoWVX ... ce198d4b6d

There's a lot in there, but the current news (or at least gossip) is that Goff had "been preparing for two weeks" to host afternoons.

Goff wanted to host with Lawrence, the station insisted Spiegel, and Goff more or less agreed and had his agent working out details

But the station wanted Goff to stop his Ringer podcast, and that was not something he was willing to do. Essentially he says prior 'contracts' with the station have left him vulnerable before to where he didn't want to leave another job, plus he liked the lack of oversight* with The Ringer

*And he appears to be telling the truth in that respect as this was on a pretty big platform and it was an hour and a half of unfocused reminiscence

I'd question The Ringer letting this happen, but hey it got me to listen to an episode of The Full Go, first in over four hundred produced (?!?)

There's entertaining stuff in there if you can get through the meandering: WSCR history, shade at Jimmy DeCastro, The Atlanta "salsa incident", even stuff for you creeps who delight in Goff's personal struggles

Good for him. I know he mentioned that he enjoyed being able to take his son to/from school every day, and The Full Go gives him a level of independence that he couldn't get working for The Score again. Also, probably re-upping with the Bulls on the TV pre/post helped his decision as well.

Right move, in all honesty. Right now, he gets to talk about only those things that he wants to talk about, and I wouldn't touch Audacy with a ten-foot pole anyway.

Interesting tidbit about wanting to do the show with Laurence.

Goff said it was an ambition of his to do the "first major market show with two non-athlete black hosts"

I don't know if that's accurate, Laurence would probably disagree because it'd be admitting he wasn't an athlete

I kind of feel icky discussing it, but Goff offered the information:

he said he is currently in a court battle for more custody of his son, and something "being used against him" was that he worked too much

The Bulls signing Lebron James is no longer imminent.

You know he was an all-star catcher at DePaul in intermurals

Does this mean Marshall Harris is next up in the reshuffling of the deck chairs on the Titanic?

Well, he was already "the first radio host in Chicago to have a black son."

I can't get with Holmes and Goff. It takes an incredible co-host to get me to deal with Holmes. I get the significance but I would not have tuned in.

I would have liked to hear a reinvented Goff at the Score, unshackled from having to fit in with the dominant character of the station. His racial perspectives are outdated by about 50 years but when he saw the real struggle today as classist, he was fantastic.

What a dbag. So self-important that he needed to be sure that it was known that HE turned THEM down and, in turn, publicly makes whomever gets the slot the "second choice/backup plan".

Whatever the reason(s), and even considering the douchebaggery involved here, I am super glad that toxic prick is staying away from the station ... now maybe he can get The Ringer to lure Larry and Haugh away next?

The thread title needs to be changed. They turned Goff down. They made an offer to hire him. He counter offered by saying he would do it but needed to keep his other ventures. They declined his counter offer.

Wouldn't working for the Score be a better salary? What does a podcast host for the The Ringer get? I can't imagine he has many listeners or that advertisers are lining up...Isn't that a pretty drastic difference in salary?

I'm happy Goff didn't end up back with the station. New blood. He's way too interested in bringing his politics to his show. Do that on The Ringer. Now, if the station could make other changes....

I saw Laurence has been out, but is there any connection (for over a week now) between Goff trying to get a show with him to now he just happens to be out while the Score is figuring out their shows???

I don't think he ever married the mother of his child, the first black son in Chicago radio history, and then they split up and he moved on. I think his current partner is a therapist, because he has spoken favorably about therapy after dismissing mental illness and the treatment thereof as other things that Brothers Don't Do.

You sure he wasn’t doing the online therapy ad Bernstein does?

Audacy had to low-ball Goff. How much negotiating leverage could he possibly have with his checkered radio past.

Will Larry Holmes between the lines hint at racism?

That can't be true about the mother of his child saying he works too much. It's a false claim by her if it's true. Should be thrown out of court. Or Goff is just lying about this.

82 Bulls games a year (A little less when you consider TNT games). What, 2 podcasts a week that he does from his house? What is that? 4 hours a week? Let's give him 6 hours a week if you count preparation time. Which is all he does for 6 months out of the year.

That is way less then the average American doing a 9-5 for 365 days a year. Both in total days working and certainly way less hours spent at work. I think Goff likes saying that, but it's something else that the ex is bitching about to get most of the custody.

Few things can be true…Goff was very good at making comments as a producer(Artie/Jackie chair), he is also very good at pre and post games for the Bulls. As a radio host, not my cup of tea. That said happy for the guy. I bet he makes 140k or so Bulls and say 60k podcast, 200k goes a long way in Chicago.

I don’t think the score money right now is anything.

He explained the pitfalls and the glaring inconsistencies of a radio contract very well. It was the best part of the 70 minutes. It makes Parkins hightailing it out of there a no brainer.

That’s not necessarily true. If you were offered a promotion but it would require that you move to Cleveland, then it would be you turning it down based on the conditions of employment.

It's pretty wild how people say things and the people listening throw the words into a scrambling machine and they come out saying exactly what the listener wants them to say.
