I am sure the advertisers are just lined up for next year. Let me guess, they will drop the rates and not even gross $2 million next year, making it a loser deal, but Mitch R. will tell everyone that the Sox bring other listeners to the station.

Weren't they behind MVP before they started broadcasting the Sox? Seems like it's been a pretty good deal.

When does the contract expire? Was it a three year deal?

Rates will not drop. People will continue to listen because they are the White Sox. Unless you're the Blackhawks, I don't think you have to worry about losing ad revenue.

After a lot of research I found out that they are a hockey team AND they actually play here- in Chicago!

Well I'll be damned. Hockey? I think that's the sport where Russians and Canadians knock each other's teeth out.

Yeah, they use something called a puck instead of a ball. Silly name if you ask me. I also heard some Wayne guy was pretty famous at some point.

I heard that billing for the White Sox has really helped the station.

Did you here anything about the expenses? lol

Of course revenue will go up, but for the guys who had them for 5 years not to even put a bid in, that has to tell you something.

I have been saying this since they got them, that it would be a 2 year run of making some money and then the White Sox would return to a mediocre team. The only issue is that the divsion they have been muettring in for years which has sucked for years got some good talent and now they are in 4th place for years to come, maybe 5th

Watch those revenues fall

Have you seen where the guys who had the Sox for 5 years have been in the ratings since they lost them? I wouldn't be touting their business acumen BF.

Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen are two of the smartest men in the baseball industry. The Sox will be back to their contending ways sooner rather than later.

Where were the White Sox before 1000? WMAQ?

EDIT: I was correct, but the Sox were at 1000 for ten years, not five.

What would make you think Ozzie is of average intelligence let alone one of the smartest in the industry?

Who was it that said it's better to be lucky than good? That's Kenny and Ozzie regarding the 2005 White Sox.

Revenues may again rise Marty, but that doesn't mean that profit margins will correspond.

Mitch and Paul took a gamble that the ratings would help them keep their gigs. Agase was hanging out all alone when he took over SCR. That decision has worked and good for them. As for which property is more profitable, that would be MVP in a landslide at this point.

Overall ratings are not the most important factor either. They are both looking for 18-54 old men first and foremost.

ESPN radio doesn't have to win the ratings war to be profitable or justify their existence in Chicago radio. As bad as the programming at SCR is, it's no better over at MVP. There's only one reason to tune into MVP and that's Dan McNeil. ESPN doesn't care about putting together a quality station. They're very happy where they are in the ratings as they use the radio station as nothing more than a 24-hour, 50,000 watt non-stop comercial for ESPN.com and ESPN TV.

Marty you contradict yourself. In one post you say that MVP is doing bad ion the ratings because they lost the Sox and then you say they are happy with the scenario?

So, why would they want the Sox again and tie themselves to the fortunes of the team?
