radio column www.suntimes.com Laurence Holmes, weekend host on CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR-AM (670), is branching out into television, courtesy of NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5. Starting September 9, he'll preview that day's Bears game with news anchors Rob Elgas and Zoraida Sambolin on Channel 5's Sunday morning newscast. |

Maybe something good will come of this. |

He should have no problem fitting this into his Sunday Morning Pre-Game Show with all the taped interviews that he plays. |

This could confuse a lot of people with Family Matters re-runs. |

This is a newscast right? So I'm thinking it's a five minute segment where the news anchors ask Larry dumb, uninformed questions about the Bears that Larry answers with fake enthusiasm. Who watches a local newscast on NFL Sundays? And who the hell is Rob Elgas and Zoraida Sambolin? Congrats Larry. You've made the big time. |

Maybe he'll take some lesson on how to dress for TV from Rob Elgas. |

Bingo. They'll have him do a live shot in front of Soldier Field at about 8:30 am talking about the fans who are tailgating and how they expect a Bears victory. And for my money, Zoraida is pretty hot in a "she acts so prim, you know she's a freak" type of way. |

Holmes was agreeing with Boers/Bernstein before the first pre-season game that it's meaningless, and that he can't wait to be done with it, but then hosted a show either that evening or in the next day or so, and wanted to know what particular improvement (or player) they were looking to see. |

I don't think Larry will be at Soldier Field. Larry still has his Bears pre game on the Score right? Well, NBC 5 is down stairs from the Score. He'll just go down there and do it live. Then do his show. It's no big deal. Nobody will watch. If you want to watch NFL pre game stuff there is plenty out there on Sunday mornings. Why would you want to watch an NBC 5 newscast with Larry? They probably gave Larry 200 bucks per show to do 5 minutes. So that's easy money for Larry since he's in the building anyway. |

I'll watch him but that's only because I am watching NBC5 to see Zoraida and Ginger Zee. Yummy. |
