The meat slides off the ribs...er wait, I guess that's not punny. C'mon Murph, think of something gag-worthy.

I'm sorry, I never really elaborated on this.

Anyway, I understand that you have to give little affirmations, yeah, right, okay, yeah, when you're talking to somebody face to face, over the phone, or face to face over the phone, but in radio, when you have a relationship as unbalanced as the host-caller relationship, that sort of thing feels like the host is asserting his dominant role in the conversation, as he's calling the shots here, not the average guy on the tinny cell phone. Maybe he's trying to hurry things up because he's up against a break, but too much of it just makes for uncomfortable listening, as it feels like he hectors the callers a little bit with this. Just a minor observation, and it's somewhat nullified by Murph at least treating his callers with a little bit of respect, which needs to be done sometimes.

today i turned on the score early for B&B and heard the end of his show....he had a guy on talking about singing the national anthem and for the last 15 seconds of the conversation it sounded like this:

caller: explaining how there are different ways to sing/play the anthem
murph: uh huh...yeah...uh huh...yeah...i love it...yeah...i love it

the other funny one was the promo they were playing on the score for a while where Hub was talking and any split second of dead air was filled with murph getting a "err" or "uh huh" "iihhh" in there.

you get the feeling that after he is done speaking, he doesnt even hear anything...its like trying to have a conversation with a senile old woman.

what a douche.

This was a very mean-spirited thread for me to have started. In retrospect, I feel awful.

If you want to fall asleep then yes Mully and Hanley are the show that will do it for you.

I love it when he talks over every guest he has and does not let them finish what they are saying. It's a constant Murph interruption. Awesome radio!

Hey Panther, how quickly did he ask you to "declare"?
BTW, you've never heard Murph become defensive during a conversation with either a caller or guest? That's when the cut-off or stammering drill goes into full effect.
You seem to like him now. Did you ever hear him when he was on WLS? That was Murph in his prime. He sounded a lot happier, not as edgy and cantankerous as he comes off now. That's why his current show has beomce a frustrating endeavor for my ears.

Mike Murphy had a show on WLS on Saturday nights.
Murphy's theme song says it all. "Never been in a press box or on a locker room floor". It's like a badge of honor to him.
Why should he resent the press. It's not like the media doesn't have an opinion on sports matters. Maybe he feels that listeners put more value on what journalists say as opposed to sports-talk radio hosts.
I tune in for someone that has an informed opinion.
I seem to remember that Murphy was the one that instigated the cross-talk battle with Mulligan. Mulligan took a stand and called Murphy out.
To me, Murph has become jaded, always willing to take a shot at the media. At times, it is warranted. I believe he's just a little overzealous.
He constantly rants about "cramming five hours into a two-hour show", showing obvious displeasure for his current job status.

I didn't know Murph had any children?
His son is on right now. Enough with the Kerry Wood closer talk. ZZ said that Wood has the mentality of a closer. Is there some test that proves this?
