I screwed this up, put it in the wrong section.

Quote:
Finishing my series of Score personalities as figures from the world of Marvel and D.C. Comics. This is part 9.

I am Ion. What's weird is that I have the characteristics of both men who have been Ion: Green Lantern Corps. Members, Kyle Rayner and Sodam Yat. Lanterns are made not born. That's why I've always been drawn to them. They aren't perfect and neither am I.

Ordinarily, when a Lantern dies, their Power Ring goes to the next most deserving being in the sector. When Rayner got his ring, the dying Lantern looked at him and said, "You'll have to do." It kinda makes me chuckle because I can understand what Rayner was feeling at that moment. You're given great power, but not expected to do much with it. That's where your own expectations has to take over.

Like me, Rayner is a smart-ass. He's gotten more comfortable in his own skin and now is more likely to crack wise. Ten years into my career at the Score, I'm the same way.

Some people think of radio as just a job. My friends always joke that I'm getting paid to do what I was doing in college; sitting on the couch and commenting on sports. I think that's an over-simplification. Radio is an art-form. I consider everyone who does it well, an artist, at using words or theater of the mind. Green Lantern Rings are controlled by the bearers' will and imagination. That's how a talk-show works too. Rayner was an artist before he was drafted in the Corps. His constructs are the most creative of any Lantern.

By the way, Rayner is a comic book nut!

Sodam Yat has taken over as Ion. He's brash and arrogant (remind you of anyone). During the Sinestro Corps War, Yat took the lead. During a battle, Lantern Arisia (an absolute hottie), said, "He acts as if he's in charge." Another Lantern interjected, "...Yet, we follow." Yat's pretty young which does cause some to be uncomfortable. It's hard to believe, but at 32, I'm still the youngest full-time, on-air "personality" at the Score. So I can relate.

When the Sinestro Corps War made its way to Earth, Yat took the fight to the biggest bully on the block, Superman Prime. I thought this was going to be a very short fight, but Yat is a Daxamite. He grew up on a red sun planet. Think cousins of the Kryptonians...as the fight went on he was able to fight back with his Power Ring and super-strength, heat vision, etc...It didn't work. Yat got his ass kicked! Prime is a psycho and stabbed Yat with lead beams (a weakness for Daxamites). Even though Ion doesn't need a Power Ring, Yat has to wear his because it keeps him from dying from the lead poisoning. Arrogance has both rewards and consequences.

Like me, Yat is still learning. He wants to be the perfect Lantern. He's still getting help from other Lanterns in his quest. Even after 10 years, I still get advice from B&B, Doug, Matty, Jason and Zach on how to make myself better.

Ion is referred to as the "Torchbearer". I love that because I want the responsibility of being the "Torchbearer" for the Score as the station moves forward.

Did Larry actually write a blog telling everybody of his virtues. He actually took time to think about what character best captures the essence of a Larry? That is one of the most "I love me" type of things anybody could ever do.

I'll bet Larry spends a good portion of each day thinking about himself. He probably brings home tapes of his shows and cracks up at what he thinks were his best lines. I also have a strong suspicion that Larry has dozens of solo pictures of himself around his house. Probably a huge portrait of himself over his bed.

I suspect that Larry comes in every monday with stories how great his weekend was, when in fact he was burping the worm to his wonder woman comics.

Guys who brag about getting pussy on the radio - 99% of the time - are lying. When the guys have the looks and personalities of Larry and Zampillo it's 100% of the time that they are lying. This is an official scientific study done by some university.

They don't even have to be on the radio to be lying
