If you haven't seen today's SunTimes, the column is here: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/jackson/920342,CST-SPT-jax29.article

I don't get some of these. Len Kasper (I don't watch many Cub games, so this is based on hi lite reels) doesn't sound that much different to me than Chip Carey.

Cubs radio #3? Pat's good, but Santo is terrible.

The biggest gaffe is Hawks TV #5 and the radio team "undecided". I'd like to know how many Hawks games he listened to and watched. Dan Kelly is the worst! Wiedeman does a great job.

I agree with Jackson's No. 1 pick -- and I'm a Sox fan.
I only listen to Sox games -- on radio. When I have a chance, I will tune into the Cubs game. Len's much better than Chip. Len has a great grasp of the game, he's also great with pop culture references.
I don't understand the Cubs radio spot. Hughes is good, but Santo is brutal. They should have been much lower.
Hawks radio is excellent. Very detailed. Great job.
White Sox radio is also very good. I would put them at No. 2.

That's what I miss by not watching the Cubs. I'm a Sox fan myself and prefer their radio over TV.

I am a cub fan, no way is the cubs radio 3rd, that doesnt make sense, but with that said, I could care less for both broadcast teams for the soxs.

Watched the sox game yesterday and Hawk is just lazy and DJ has to realize that you dont have to analyze every single pitch as if its the key to the game. I know they wont do it, but I would put stone on tv with dj and Hawk with farmer, that would work because Farmer wont shut up and Hawk doesnt want to say much unless its a homerun or striekout for the white sox.

Obviously it's a subjective list, so I won't argue with his order.

But Harrelson's signature calls are certainly not among the "most popular... in all of broadcasting."

Apparently Jackson only watches local Chicago broadcasts and has never left Cook County. That's a bigger homer call than anything Santo ever said.

I dunno if they are "the" most popular, but they are popular. I've heard several of his phrases on sportscenter, some not even during Sox hi-lites.

I'm sure you're right about SC, Frank, but I don't know how many viewers outside of Chicago could identify "put it on the board" = Hawk Harrelson.

As an aside, I watch/listen to as much baseball as I can when traveling for work (which is a lot in the summer). "He gone" or a variation thereof is pretty standard. It's kind of like saying your catchphrase is "the throw to first is in time."

Yeah, but they don't say it "HE gawn!", I guess.

I like both Cubs presentations a lot, slight edge to radio, because Pat Hughes is probably the best pbp man in baseball.

Wiedeman is fantastic on the Hawks call, and even though Troy Murray is Hockey Santo at times, the input of the color man is not substantial when doing hockey on the radio. Eddie Olczyk is pretty good, though he's really pushing "STOP IT RIGHT THERE," and Dan Kelly is really really bad. He misses big plays right in front of him and giggles too much.

Larrivee and Kerr are a really good pairing. Good chemistry, and don't get into the cheerleading and whining that the cable team apparently does. (Never seen cable Bulls.) Haven't heard enough Bulls radio to judge.

Thayer is okay, but Joniak just doesn't have the right voice for Bears football.

Steve Stone marginally improves White Sox radio, because he's the best in the business, but he works with Ed Farmer. I can't stand Hawk and DJ at all.

Hawk are DJ, in my opinion are brutal. I truly believe it takes a mega homer Sox fan (with all due respect) to appreciate those two.

I always have preferred watching the Bulls on WGN rather than Fox Sports Net or Comcast SportsNet.

I never listened to Bears radio with Larivee (sp?). In the past few years, I have listened to Joniak, and since I can't compare, I would say that I appreciate Joniak's pbp.

I finally heard them today in OT and the TV guys are much better. Tim Ryan's improved greatly since he was on the Score.
