Post subject:  Cubs or Cubbies?

On my way home from work this evening, a caller seemed to take offense with 670 "The SCORE's" Brian "The Whipping Boy" Paruch referring to the Cubs as the "Cubbies" during a live broadcast at the Wrigleyville John Barleycorn. The caller seemed to think that true Cub fans don't refer to that team as "the Cubbies" and said something about "Lou Piniella being from New York". It seemed to actually stir up some callers over that very word, even though I thought I heard Piniella mention the term "Cubbie occurrence" during a press conference back in April. As Brian came back from a break, I heard the late Harry Caray's rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," which I thought I heard the line "Root, Root, Root for the Cubbies." To me anyway, what difference does it make? I don't care if people refer to the Cubs as "the Cubbies", the White Sox as simply as "the Sox" or the Blackhawks as "the Hawks". In the Cubs' case, it doesn't change the fact they haven't won a World Series in 100 years. Just imagine what ESPN, FOX Sports & TBS Sports will remind Cub fans everywhere every time they're featured...
