Ask Mitch how he got "Mully & Hanley" to agree to do morning drive so quickly after Mike North parted company after 16 years, plus who will eventually become Laurence Holmes' co-pilot middays, and why "The SCORE" doesn't simply expand middays back to 10a-2p...

Mitch, why did you let North control the station?

-Giving him every time slot after failing. Including afternoon and morning drives.

-Letting him dictate format. Letting him do politics/news/entertainment despite the fact that he was a complete idiot. Why?

-Letting him hire a waitress just because she had big boobs. Mitch, you allowed her to be executive producer and news women just cuz Pappy made you do that. Do you think she was qualified? Obvioulsy not cuz you didn't give her an EP job once North left.

-Putting up with North after he bitched about management. You gave him the most ads over any other show. He had a billboard at the U.S Cellullar Field behind home plate. You gave him 3 producers. Not to mention you were paying him 1.5 million.

-Did you ever try to advise Pappy to change his horrible show. Or did you not have the power? Was it out of your control to do anything to Pappy cuz he had a huge contract and all of the power. Pappy was making more than you, Mitch. Is that why you let him do whatever he wanted?

-Why did you even offer Pappy 800k to stay? Thank god he was dumb enough not to take it. You almost made the same mistake when you signed him to that insane deal 7 years ago. Pappy saved you from yourselves. Don't you find that ironic?

-Mitch, was the Pappy contract talks out of your control? Was it above you?

-His racist comments. Why didn't you ever suspend him for that?

Thanks for the time Mitch

Radio has been on the downward spiral for some time now and while sports radio numbers are good, I feel that the Score and ESPN have essentially jumped the shark. Likely this started with the North and Maxfield experience. Many callers seem to repeat what the host has just said or has a completely idiotic comment. Some hosts berate the callers, while others had stopped taking callers. Hosts seem to beat the same topics to death, like why Kyle Orton is not starting over Rex Grossman. While I am not sure if I am alone on this one, do you hear others saying this, and if so, how can sports radio be reinvented?

where did you guys go to celebrate when North turned down your last offer?

Mitch, why is it that the midday slot is divided between two shows? Other Score show slots are four hours. I thought the original impetus for dividing the midday slot was too many hosts/not enough constant slots (with the Sox often taking early-evening timeslots for their games)

By putting Larry into the 10-12 slot, even on a trail basis, are you perpetuating an artificial division of a show slot, without remember why it was done in the first place, or is there more about this time slot that we don't understand? E.g., its core listeners are too disparate to give them a single host/hosting style?

Secondly, why are you giving us Larry and his "medialand friends" as a possible replacement? Its obvious anchors from other media outlets aren't trying out for the job; what are they doing to enhance the "Larry experience" (such as it is)?

There are camps on this board who'd prefer Drinky, Goff, Drinky with Goff as candidates. Others note solid performances by Haugh and other part timers. Guys from the past, like Grobstein, also get votes.
a. You seemed to have an environment where there is a logjam of talent. The only way someone can get a show is if an "original" dies. I noticed over the years a number of update guys and/or producers doing their own shows. These guys later burn out, and migrate away from the station. Am I the only one who doesn't see this as a strength?
b. Two of our candidates, Drinky & Goff, produce the strong Boers and Bernstein show. Wouldn't their departure weaken B&B, and therefore they're given less serious consideration than an update guy/reporter?
c. Since I wouldn't mind Haugh nor Grobber (together or not), what's being done to solicit non-Larry candidates?
d. Am I the only who thinks Murph could do the 4-hour segment just fine?

Are you here to get our "radio information"?

Is there a significant difference in cost between hosting national shows and producing local shows overnight?

I believe the late night and overnight shifts were great opportunities to groom younger talent and allow them to gain some loyalty with listeners. I also believe that it allowed the SCORE to be the last station on when radios were clicked off at night resulting in lead in for morning shows. Unless you are realizing significant savings you are missing these opportunites.

Everybody at the Score seems to think Murph is a complete ass hole. Boers has outright said as much. How tough is that dynamic to have an employee that everybody hates? Do you find Murph to be a jack ass and only put up with him cuz he has decent ratings?

What do you do on a daily basis? It seems like the mics are turned on at 6am and your hosts talk all day. You have a sales departement to sell the ads. You even have a sports director. I guess he fills out the weekend schedule and puts the subs in when the regulars go on vacation.

Is your job, basically, to kiss the asses of your sponsors? Is that what you do from 9-5?

Dear Mr. Rosen,

I am writing to you as a passionate sports fan and as an avid listener of your radio station. I am not sure if the new post Mike North line-up on WSCR is permanent or not, however, I must state that I am not thrilled that Laurence Holmes seems locked in for the new 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. slot. I have been a fan of WSCR for about eight years now, so I realize that Mr. Holmes has tenure over some of the other notable Score backups, such as Paruch, Abbatacola and Goff (with Paruch being under utilized by your station, I believe). However, in my humble opinion, those three individuals have far more talent than Holmes. Not only to I feel that Laurence is not a great host. I was not particularly fond of his "Pulse" segments, and after a few minutes, I had went back to Waddle & Silvy, a show on ESPN 1000 that has slowly turned into one of my favorite sport shows in Chicago. I am hoping that it is not a forgone conclusion that Holmes is the new midday host, since I think The Score has a few other individuals who would put on a far better show, and actually be able to compete against Waddle & Silvy. The three other names I mentioned above would make far superior choices, and they deserve a shot at middays as well. Any such excuse that Abbatacola or Goff are not viable since Boers & Bernstein's show would miss them as producers would not fly with me. If they are ready for day radio, they should get their shot. I believe they are ready.

As for mornings, I couldn't be happier. I am loving Mulligan & Hanley on my way to work. I was not a fan of the previous morning show at all. ESPN 1000 should be sweating bullets now because they must realize that with WSCR having the perfect morning show in place, almost nobody is going to listen to Mike & Mike. I just feel it's a shame that WSCR felt it was necessary to honor Mike North's contract just about to the very end, and that it wasn't realized that a move such as this was necessary a long, long time ago.

Thanks for reading.

Mitch,

Mike North has be quoted as saying he did not work for you or Rod Zimmermann, what is your reaction to that.

When does Matt A. get the same opportunity Laurence is getting?

Thanks Mitch and thank you again for putting a real show on from 6am-10am.

Have you thought about giving Matt Abbatacola & Jason Goff's "Last Call" a full time slot on "The SCORE" on nights there is no White Sox baseball? Could you also get Zach Zaidman to stop saying "Have you heard? Steve Stone now does the games with Ed Farmer!" whenever he builds a bridge to the Sox broadcasts? Zach sounds so dorky saying that!

When you look at your Score bench do you say to yourself "What the hell happened to our broadcasting schools?"

Do you work with Goff and Drinky and try to teach them how to speak?

I often find myself wishing I could hear a program about finance, one about sports, & one about home repair, but who has time to listen to three whole shows? Would there be any way to say, combine those types of topics into one, high-quality show?

EDIT: NOT a real question.

Mister Rosen,
Everyone keeps stating that there was an offer on the table to North for $800,000
and when he balked, the offer was withdrawn.
I don't believe that anyone "in the know" has ever stated these circumstances to be true.
Was there an offer?
How much was it for?
If there was an offer, was it turned down?
Was it withdrawn and if so, why?
Thank you
