Acording to Feder, Hampton only signed a one year deal with the Score. Larry was renewed for 3 years. I can see that. Hampton doesn't know if he wants to do 5 days a week for too long. When Larry doesn't work out they'll just make him a reporter/fill-in again to finish his 3 years. I'll bet Hampton is getting double what Larry is getting for his one year.

When they asked Hampton how long he wanted to work for them, he said the only number he could count to.

Even though he is a marble-mouthed hick, he should get twice as much as Larry.
That is the spoils granted to a HOF'er. Like it or not.

I'll bet Hampton got 160k for his 1 year. I'll bet Larry gets 80k per year. It is only a 2 hour show. Most radio shows are 3 or 4 hours. It's Larry's first shot. It's midday. Not drive time. Larry is just happy to get a shot. Hampton gets double cuz the Score considers him the big name draw. Right or wrong.

This is just a guess on my part of course.

Whatever the salary breakdowns are, one thing for sure is that, I think the whole concept is a big mistake.
For the love of god, what makes Mitch think that Larry is good for middays, regardless of his partner?
Is it just me, or are most of these radio exec'c fucking stupid? Do they not have ears to hear?
However, I will give the show a chance.

You know, when you think about it, it's weird to have a HOF player doing a local radio show 5 days a week. Hampton will be the last of this kind. Hampton played from 1979-1990. That was right before NFL players started making crazy money. I don't think Hamp ever made more than a couple million a year. That was probably only the last few years of his career. Full free agency hit in 1993 in the NFL. The league became a crazy money-making machine after that. Now, 1st rounders get huge signing bonuses of 10-15 million up front. Shit, HOF players will clear 50 million in their careers at least. They won't need to do local radio when they are done playing.

Guys like Waddle will still try for these jobs. Hampton is the last HOFer that will do local radio in any market. They just won't need to from here on out. Not with the money they will have made.

I will also give the show a chance, but I agree with you here. Larry (& Silvy on MVP) are both unlistenable, and now that I think about it, I don't know that I've ever heard a former Bear (under the age of 50) who actually had something interesting to say on a regular basis.
Maybe Walter, if he got pissed, but even that was rare.

Ex-Bear & shrill ass-kisser seems to be the lowest common denominator radio loved in this town. At those estimated prices though, it may be plenty though.

And that IS a good thing, for the rest of us.

You can't envision "My Two Brians" starring Urlacher and Paruch?

How about Urlacher and Abbatacola?

"Matty and the Baby Daddy"?

I really dont get why anyone would care what they are making, I have no issue with calling them out on a bad show or saying something stupid, but what they make, thats their business and like I have always said, take what you can when you can.

Where did I say that I care what they are making? It was just idol speculation on my part. I don't care. I'll never ridicule somebody for what they make. Make whatever you can. Good for you. But it's fun to guess salaries. People do it all of the time. You do it for actors, singers and other celebrities. At least I do.

Of course it's their business what they make. I said it was just a guess on my part. Nobody should be offended. I never stated it as a fact. Hell, Larry and Hamp are sure to mention the salaries of ball players on their show.

I hear ya. It's just fun for me.

For example:

I'll be hanging with my buddies. We'll be watching the channel 5 news. I'll say "What the hell do you think Warner Saunders makes?" We'll all take a guess. I think we all came to the conclusion that Warner probably makes 1.5 million. It's just fun bullshit talk. Doesn't mean anything.

Why are you hanging out with your buddies watching the Channel 5 news?

Deep down, Beardown wants to be Larry.

Deep down, Beardown would love to be a lot of people other than Beardown. Beardown hates Beardown. Except Larry. I wouldn't want to be whatever the hell that is.

We were waiting for Paula Farris' filed report from Bears training camp. I'm being serious.

No, no, and I'm not after BD either, but a lot of people take North's being a high school drop out, or a hot dog stand owner or the fact that he was overpaid for a long time as reasons to hate the guy. Being overpaid requires stupidity on the other guy's part: the rest I never really understood. I understand disliking "bad".

As for the Hampton/Larry extravaganza, we'll see. Maybe Hampton will do lots of prep and an NBA savant and all kinds of stuff. Maybe Larry will have thoughts. Maybe it won't be the ex-jock and metrosexual show. I have my suspicions though, especially as everyone figures out what baseline effort for a show is...

I never begrudged North the money he got. Some fool gave it to him. Good for Pappy.

I'd bring up his salary when he would bitch and moan about how poorly the Score was treating him. How they never helped his show. That's when I brought up his salary. Nobody should bitch when they are paid that much. The Score was great to him. North never had any talent. He never had a huge listenership. They gave him that contract when he was in middays. He never even proved himself in drive time slots. Then, he failed in both the afternoon and mornings. He should have nothing but gratitude towards the Score. He sucked and made millions. They were even willing to pay him 800k to continue to suck. Pretty good bosses if you ask me.
