Thursday the Cubs had a GIANT come-from-behind win in their pennant race & added to their best record in over 60 years. Meanwhile, the lowly Bears won their first preseason game out of 4. At 1:59am WBBM gave only the Bears score in their sports headlines; then I listened at 9:30am when - again - Bears flagship WBBM only gave the Bears score. WTF?! |

WBBM Newsradio 780 didn't mean to omit the Bears & Cubs' scores when they did. As the city's only All-News Station, the anchors sometimes need to talk fast to get the headlines in before they break away for the top-of-the-hour CBS Radio News update from New York. If you listen at the bottom of the hour as well, WBBM anchors read the headlines at :31 past the hour and will occasionally have a CBS News update shortly thereafter. It was not intentional for 'BBM to omit the Bears & Cubs when they did. I think they were simply up against the clock, and have a "wheel" of their own unlike 670 "The SCORE" & ESPN Radio 1000. |

I dont think WBBM cares. I also dont think the two major sports stations care either. Football has and always will be more popular then baseball. Even though there is a chance the Bears will be one of the worst teams in the league, and the fact that this is probably the best all-around season of baseball most of us have seen in our lifetimes, Bears talk has dominated discussion in the preseason. |

But doesn't that conflict with the theory that all the media cares about is just the Cubs? I means you never hear about the White Sox. When was the last time they led off sports with a White Sox story? Last night? So long ago. |

I dont have any inside scoop on marketing trends, but I know a few hosts have said something similar on their show. |

Since the advent of the Score and 'MVP and all the national sports tickers on your television screen, anything else on local TV or radio pertaining to up-to-date sports scores or other information is absolutely irrelevant. Deal with it. How they can justify paying local sports anchors like Giangreco, et al, more than even minimum wage is beyond me. They're dinosaurs. |
