In August 2006, Cy wrote: "I'm not saying that I dispise, dislike or have any sort of hatred towards Murph. I appreciate what Murph has done for me and have a great deal of gratitude for him."

In January 2009, Cy wrote: "He's the biggest CockFuck I ever met."

Cy, would you care to elaborate on what changed your opinion in those 2 1/2 years? Or in 2006, were you just being a loyal team player? If so, that's fine. We all have to do that sometimes. Or perhaps 'CockFuck' is some term of endearment that you wacky radio guys use?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Who is Cy?

Post subject:  Re: QUESTION FOR CY

I would say it is a little bit of both, one i was being a team player and another is that maybe I wanted to believe that Murph was trying to help me. At that time I probably believed it but things can change and they did. For the most part, I was either naive or just flat out dumb but I thought Murph really tried to help me. It wasn't until about the last year that I was with him that I realized what a Cockfuck he was. (By the way that is a term I made up to describe a man that is a cock and dumbfuck at the same time). I remember asking Jay Goff to be nice and not play all those drops. I would also defend his ass when everyone was making fun of Murph.

That all changed four days after Easter in 2007. Our relationship before that wasn't great, but I never thought it was bad. I figured I did a good job and that it was appreciated at the very least, but Murph can't appreciate anything. The reason I know the date so well is b/c it happened on a Thursday with Stone in the Studio. I had also just came back to work after being off Thursday and Friday of the previous week. Easter was that Sunday. That Easter was a little different for me, as I spent it in the hosipital. On Wednesday before Easter, my father got Meningitis and we didn't know if he was going to make it. He did waking up on that Sunday but it was a pretty tough week for me none the less.

So Stoney is on for the first hour and I forgot to turn on his mic to start things. (Honestly I never was great at turning on mics) The interview finishes and Mitch comes in studio to ask Murph how the interview went. The talkback button was stuck, so I could hear their whole conversation and well it wasn't very flattering to me. Murph went on a bitch fest of how I didn't have Stoney's Mic on for the first segment. The man talked shit about me for about 3 minutes and nothing else. How I was doing a bad job, didn't pay attention and blah blah blah.

I couldn't believe it and I just snapped. I waited to the show ended but didn't even bother listening to that bitch. I did nothing for the last hour and even had my head down like I was sleeping. A few days earlier, he played all concerned about my father and then when he thinks Im not listening he is telling my boss how bad I am at my job. Fuck him. He tried to be nice as I was leaving and said "Hey Cy, what we got going on tommorrow" I told him he would figure it out and how he shouldn't trash people with the mic on. Then I heard him say something and I went back at him, but Murph didn't say nothing and I went home. From that point on I felt that Murph was a Cockfuck.

Needless to say, I worked with Murph until January 2008 and not once did he offer any kind words about my father. Nothing when he knew damn well what my family was going through. Instead he did everything to get me off his show. So screw him, he's a Cockfuck.

As far as being a team player at the Score, I really hated myself for being that guy. My only motivation was that I really wanted to be on the air at the Score, so I would do anything for that goal. That meant saying things that I thought Mitch and Paul would like to hear. Sorry about that and as you can see I dont give damn anymore.

Thanks for the inside intel Cy. I know how hard it is to deal with life when a loved one is sick; but dealing with a guy like Murph?

Even worse.

And yet, there are those who will defend Murph as being a "Score original" and he's as good as anyone on the radio....uh huh.

Well I guess it's official. If this is the real Cy, then it's confirmed. Any hope I had that Murph wasn't a douchebag I guess is gone. First hand witness account is pretty unbeatable.

I think one of the posters here, Score is Doomed, use to work at the Score too and you can see his venom in his posts when he talks about his former employer.

I know what Cy is talking about though about being a team player. That's how they get you in. They promise you a shot at the mic if you pay your dues behind it, then work you like a slave and under appreciate you. You still buy it because you still have that dream of getting on air but they know you're just one of thousands of suckers that they can manipulate and pay nothing to.

That's how it is in a lot of industries. Unfortunately for those in radio, that abuse is coupled with an immoral pay scale.

There is nothing inconsistent about liking Murph's work on air and understanding his personality off air.

I hope that's his reason, because he rarely listens to any of the sports radio he constantly criticizes. That would make some sense.

So, since he's a jerk on the air he's an ok guy? His childish routines got old real fast.

To say he knows more about baseball than Steve Stone; can't understand why the Bears "With a brand new stadium" didn't turn around and hire even more high-priced talent (The words "Salary Cap" are two that Murph can't understand...at all) that anyone who thinks Santo is a borderline Hall of Famer or doesn't belong in the Hall is immediately a Sox fan, the guy (thank God) never talks about the Blackhawks or the Bulls; and conducts himself as a horrid interviewer with skills that wouldn't get him on the air at a college radio station is laughable.

The man is a joke.

You have my logic mixed up.

because he is a good radio host I don't care much that he is a bad guy

and yes I know "good" is subjective but all objective data indicates it as well

To each their own. I can't stand having to listen to him when MVP is off on a tangent.

I don't know if this is so true. I really don't think they ever promised me a shot on the mic. They knew I wanted to be on-air badly, but they never said to me that one day I will get a shot. I guess I figured that if you worked hard you would get a shot, but that really isn't how they work there. However if your not a team player and this is probably anywhere, you aren't helping yourself.

To be honest when Drew Hayes was in charge, it was pretty well explained that producers wouldn't be on air. Mitch was a little different but he never promised me any mic time. Maybe it is that I suck and aren't that good on the mic but I don't think I can be as bad as some of the guys who have been given mic time. The worst was when i would have Mitch listen to my demo and give me pointers, and every time all he could say is reset more (give the call letters, show name, phone number for those that don't know). Really is that it, I only need to reset more. Thanks great advice. I just spent twenty minutes that I can't get back and all you can tell me is to reset more.

Wow, that is good advice. This is Pappy's Crappy on the Murph post-noon forum of the CSFMB. I think I'm going to start doing that more. Hey, Pappy's Crappy with you at 20 minutes after 3 on the CSFMB. Cy, I'm sorry your time at the Score wasn't more rewarding for you. This is the Murph post-noon forum on the CSFMB. Pappy's Crappy wishing you a good afternoon!

Yep, see, I think that post went really well. Got to remember that.

After reading this thread, it reminds me of a story back in the early 2000s I heard from a guy who was a salesman at the score. The Producer had a real ethnic name, can't remember now but I think he may have been Asian, like Chinese/Korean/Indian. Anyway, Murph kept making fun of his name and this guy was like WTF, am I back in grade school?? It was all off the mic but one show Murph did it on the air and the dude just walked off.

Cy : do you remember this story? If so, can you elaborate on what happened? I could see this douchebag acting like a 3rd grader and making fun of someone's name.

Murph's ratings are the same as an empty net goal in hockey. If nobody is there to block the shot; of course you can score. For ESPN to just give up the 12-2 without a solid show is what gives Murph his ratings.

This has been discussed in depth here, but Murph's ratings have been good no matter the slot he was in.
With Fred he beat Mike and Mike in the morning. He beat the last hour of MJH when he was on from 6-11 in the evenings.
So, to say his success is just because of the 12-2 slot would be incorrect.
Ask Brian's Mojito, he will be glad to do the research for you.

this is sadly true. He's got his following. He would be decent, Reason with another host. Anybody. He is one of the worst solo hosts on the score this side of Bernsie and yet the Score has him work solo. Makes sense...

While I personally think it's great that you left Stone's mic off for a whole segment, it's radio in the #3 market, and if I were in Murph's place I might be pissed too. I wouldn't be two-faced about it like Murph was, but you know.

I never worked at the score or any other radio station.
I'm just a radio listener who wants to hear GOOD radio, not some of the lazy crap put out by big money guys. BTW, Murph sucks as a person as well as a radio host.
