Rafael Furcal reportedly agrees to a three year deal with the Dodgers. Abbatocola and Goff are hammering onto Hendry and the Cubs organization. I guess it's good Murph is off on Sat. nights, cause he'd really have a field day right now. |

While I agree that Furcal is overpriced, I just detest Nefi for a full season. He is a career .255 guy who batted .320 in the first half. |

How is he not a $13 million a year kind of guy if someone was willing to pay that? Its called market value - kind of like North - Is he worth $1.7 million, yes because someone idiot decided he was and defined his value. Go ahead and tell me the difference between Furcal and North . . . I'd like to hear it. Keeping Score wrote: Furcal is NOT a $13 million a year kind of guy.
Even at the reported $10 million teams were offering (Cubs, Braves I believe) even THAT was a stretch in my opinion. So if Furcal wants to leave a perennial winner in the Braves, and not go to a possible contender in the Cubs, and instead go to the sorry ass Dodgers for the money, then he's probably a greedy slouch anyways - whose numbers could very well suck if it turns out he turned it up a notch just to play for the contract. Hendry should stay far away from this guy |

Mike North's current value is $1.7 million. However, I would like to speculate that he won't be making that kind of money, with anybody, ever again. The Score might offer him a lower deal, next time, in which he probably will go elsewhere. In my opinion, it's less humbling to take less money from someone else, than from the person who previously offered you a higher number, before you proved to be a failure. As for Furcal, if he plays great and "appears" to earn his $13 mil, then he will probably demand a higher amount after his three year contract expires. If he plays ok, or below average, then he certainly will never see $13 mil. again. I'm not attempting to answer your question, Asner, about the difference between North and Furcal; I'll leave that up to the expert, Keeping Score. |

Quote: So when Texas gave Arod $25 mil a year, which was $10 mil a year more than anybody else was going to give him, that made him worth it? Yes. Quote: Anyways, I don't know about all the semantics of market value, or the semantics of your little war of words game, but does this sound like a $13 million a year kind of guy? Market value = what someone is willing to pay. It is actually very simple KS. Now, getting back to my original question, I'd like to propose that your argument should go both ways . . . if you are questioning someone like Furcal, why aren't you questioning North's deal? That really was my point - it wasn't to argue over Furcal's numbers/stats - who gives a shit? |

If you want to chime in on Furcal, his contract, Hendry, Cola or Goff, then please feel free. I don't think most people would appreciate this forum turning into another North forum. If you want my thoughts on North, you can always find me in the appropriate forum. Couldn't find your response in the North forum. It is my understanding that Furcal gets a little drinky at night. That's fine he is entitled. The Cubs play day games. Furcal's average at night is at least 70 points higher at night than in the daytime. I believe B and B stated he hit .255 in the day and upwards of .320 at night. Considering the influx of day games Furcal would have to deal with he would probably have been a bad pick and failed a la another Braves shortstop Jeff Blauser just my take. Point said they need to re-evaluate the farm system alot and decide can't misses and tradebait. |

All I know is that I was seeing at least 2 teams and possibly 3, who were offering Furcal $10 mil a year. And then the Dodgers lose their mind and go $3 mil a year higher than anybody else. When Kenny Williams did the Carlos Lee/Pods trade, and freed up all that moolah, look at what he did with it. Can you imagine what somebody like Kenny W could do with that extra $9 mil over 3 years? Anyways, I don't know about all the semantics of market value, or the semantics of your little war of words game, but does this sound like a $13 million a year kind of guy? Furcal's rank amongst all shortstops in 2005: Runs 4th Hits 8th HR's 10th RBI 13th BB's 2nd SB 2nd Avg 10th OBP 8th |

Keeping Score wrote: Quote: As if the Cubs are any closer, they finished in 4th last year, get your head out of your ass Can we not have a discussion without the classless comments? Anyways, the Cubs went 79-83 in a division which happened to include the two teams who fought for the NL Pennant, the Cardinals & the Astros. The Dodgers went 71-91 in a pathetic division that produced the laughingstock of the playoff's - division winner San Diego. Both teams had their share of injuries, and I'm not too sure it affected one more than the other. While Kent should end up in the Hall of Fame, I don't think the Dodgers have a player quite the caliber of D Lee or even Ramirez for that matter. Don't forget the Cubs were MANY people's pre-season favorite to go to the Series. I believe they were even on SI's cover touting them to do so. Ya , I think it's relatively safe to say that the Cubs are much closer than the Dodgers.....in my humble opinion The easier division will help the Dodgers get into the playoffs next year. Plus the Cubs can't beat the Reds, Pirates, Brewers or bricklayers of the other divisions, the 'strong division' argument doesn't hold up (plus the NL is Weak!) |
