I hate Jim Rome more than Tim Hardaway hates gays...so I guess the answer is yes. A weak yes.

Jim Rome is soooooooooooooooooo much better than Murph!

So who is going to be Rex #10? They gotta get Rex Grossman at some point, don't they?

I liked listening to Rome........at midnight on the way home from my 2nd PT job at the time...

Otherwise, keep it.

Murph, as annoying as he can be and as uneducated at sports other than baseball that he can be, I would still take him over Rome.

I agree. I loved the replay at midnight when I was falling asleep. It was very entertaining but I never tried to listen during the day. May not translate well for me...

I'd rather hear Frank Caliendo's dead-on imitation of the sports talk radio "shock jock", complete with the dead air & pregnant pauses than hear the real "Jungle" with Jim Rome or even "Jim Rome is Burning" on ESPN in the afternoon... :x

while i hate the clones, they're no worse than the crappers on B&B--anyone who thinks of themself as a celebrity because they're a listener of a radio show, please get over yourself. like me for instance. w_z, get over yourself, you elitist punk.

so after berating myself just there, i'd like to add: jim rome is entertaining. murph's not.

I'll take Rome, but his show has been stale the past few months when I listen and his asslicking interviews are awful, not as bad as Murphs show, but bad.

Rome is great, very entertaining. I think he's never worked in chicago, but outside of chicago, he's always had good #'s.

My main problems with Jim Rome:

He wants people to 'bring it' but he never does, he is a suck up. But that's a problem that you see with many radio hosts.

when he came to Chicago on WMVP for his two hour stretch I thought it was really pathetic how he begged people to give him a listen before judging his show.

I also hate that he uses this format on his show:
"Hey I'm going to have so-and-so on in the next hour so stay listening"
then the next hour:
"Hey I'm talking to so-and-so"
Hour after that:
"Hey I talked to so-and-so earlier and it was phenomenal!"

WITH THAT SAID
he's better than Murph... but that's the tallest midget (not tall midget) award. I'd rather listen to my ipod and wait for B and B to come on at 3 (eastern).

Post subject:  Re: Jim Rome > Murph 12-2

Part of the problem when Jim Rome originally signed on in Chicago was that he took away the final hour of Tony Kornheiser's old 9a-Noon show and the first hour of the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio nationally. This was long before "Mr. Tony" started doing "PTI" with Mike Wilbon and "ESPN's Monday Night Football" & well before D.P. left ESPN about a year and a half ago. Off the air, while Rome's syndicated sports talk show actually put money in ESPN Radio 1000's pocket, Kornheiser & Patrick privately were not pleased that the Los Angeles-based sports "shock jock" cut into their shows. This was about 5 years or so ago when Rome was on live, and not on tape delay like Patrick's current show is locally.

Murph is awful. I have no idea why people like him. His show is as enjoyable as Kathy and Judy.

Yes, thank for this, I have been saying that for years. The "crappers" that call in week
after week, with these pre written diatribes who think they are so funny and clever are a bunch of moron's. How this bit has lasted this long is beyond me.

Less so. His voice is so grating, it's like being repeatedly punched in the balls the entire time you're listening.

I'll partake in the occasional Murph. It's by no means a perfect or even very good show, but there are things he does well. I think it's good to have a host in your lineup that shows the listeners some respect. It's good to have a Cubs show on the Sox flagship, because fans shouldn't have to rely on the house organ for Cubs talk, even though Kaplan purports to have enough credibility in the Tower to get away with honesty. He has his audience, and these efforts to run him off the air are stupid and ugly, and after the crowd started chanting "MURPH!!!" in response to something or another at the remote today, I wouldn't be surprised if this is it for even the most veiled on-air Murph bashing.
