DePaul win heard only on the Internet - Posted by Ed Sherman - 3/11/2009

WSCR-AM 670 is the flagship station of DePaul basketball. Naturally, it sent its regulars Zach Zaidman and Laurence Holmes to Madison Square Garden Tuesday for the opening game of the Big East tournament against Cincinnati.

However, SCR didn't air the game at 11 a.m. Instead, the game only was available on DePaul's website.

When I heard that, I immediately thought, "This guarantees DePaul will win."
Sure enough, the Blue Demons, previously 0-16 in the Big East, finally recorded their first conference victory.

I put in a call to Mitch Rosen, the program director at SCR, and asked why the station didn't air the game? "Previous advertiser commitments," Mr. Rosen said.

Translation: We had no interest in airing a first-round game featuring a winless team. You can bet if DePaul was a decent team, there wouldn't have been any issue with advertising commitments Tuesday.

"Previous advertiser committments?" What the hell does that supposed to mean?  You realize "Hampton & Holmes", Mike Murphy, "Boers & Bernstein" and practically everything else next Thursday & Friday will be pre-empted by "The SCORE's" coverage of the NCAA Tournament via Westwood One...
