Please, Nos mults and others, I've posted it here, so there is no need to post it anywhere else. Thanks!

Mike North announced Thursday that his new ChicagoSportsWebio.com Internet sports-talk radio venture will launch April 6 and that its backers expect it to be profitable in the first year.

In addition to the weekday lineup revealed earlier this week - starting with a simulcast of North and Dan Jiggetts' "Monsters in the Morning" TV show on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, followed by hosts Teddy Greenstein, Jonathan Hood and Chet Coppock - North announced Thursday that George Ofman will leave WSCR 670-AM to be a field reporter with the new Internet station, and Ron Kittle will be the baseball analyst, along with Doug Glanville, whose deal is still being finalized.

David Hernandez will run the station out of his Spectrum Entertainment Group from studios in Morton Grove. Despite the huge outlay to sign talent for the venture, Hernandez insists the station will soon make money.

"Knowing the dynamics of how the Score evolved," he said, the Internet venture will make "a profit in the first year."

Stating that the station has "a better startup than we had at the Score," North added, "The model we put together here is a no-brainer."

Some skeptics in the media, especially the broadcast sports-talk-radio competition, will read that differently from others.

The April 6 premiere was planned to take advantage of baseball's Opening Day, the NCAA Finals and the Masters golf tournament.

So, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but North, Hernandez and Co. are going to need people who use the internet to listen to these shows to garner sucess, ratings, and revenue.

Therefore, isn't he going to need help from "Dose chatboard guys?" now more than ever?

The costs of putting this on are nothing. The revenue really doesn't have to be much to make money.

Agree the cost to "be on the web" is nothing. To pay Jessie, webby, hood etc is something.

This Next step medical thing must be churning money like a gin mill! If I was a client of Next Step I would be wondering how much profit this guy is charging to be tossing money at North for every whim he has.

"IF" this makes a profit in the 1st year, which I dont think it will, I would expect a huge % of the revenue comes from NEXT STEP medical staffing.

I actually do wish him good luck, so my version will have a beaten dog to jump on one day. lol

right, the costs are low. so are the listeners. why pay money to advertise when there is no benefit, no listeners.

I still "smell" something fishy about this Next Step Medical guy. It's hard to believe that some obscure employment agency is generating this much extra cash. Sounds more like a mob front than a legit operation.

norts mob friends launder money thru this schmuck(hernandez) and his legit company to feed nort's webio station. Nah, hernandez is a regular guy who probably inherited some cash and is being hustled by nort. Hernandez thinks nort is famous and wants to hangout with him and other sports stars and it will eventually drain alot of his cash. hey davey, after you are done reading this, can you post how much $$$ you are sinking into this venture?

I agree with that. It's amazing how Hernandez is just hiring people with no means of getting a return on this investment. Looks like he hired a staff of about 20 people if you count producers. Wow. He must have FU money.

I don't blame a lot of these guys for taking his money and joining this new venture. Most of them have nothing to lose. They were out of options or this is a 2nd job. Weber left cuz he says he's getting paid a lot more money and he said he was a "part-time" producer. He's young so this is a start for him as opposed to being the end for Hood and Chet.

George and Jesse are a little bit curious. They quit their "full time" radio jobs to join this thing. That was stupid.

It didn't happen until late Thursday, but I will be working with Matt Weber from 9-11am daily.

Teddy Greenstein was unable to do this shift, and I was fortunate enough to be asked.

After being away from "the game" since December 5th, I will have a voice once again beginning April 6th.

yeah, mac wants to go out and sell ads to make money for pappy. hahahahahahahahaha
if he ends up here, that means nobody else offered him squat
i want the old mac that had the swagger and wouldn't take shit from mike north, who he knows is a joke.
you can't defend nort anymore, don't give me the he helped put wscr on the map, yeah we know, the last 10 yrs he has sucked and to say otherwise is crazy. his ego exploded and hasn't contracted since he broke off from jiggets the first time. nort is like o.j. , drew peterson, blago, in his mind he can do no wrong. morning show gets beat 9 out 10 times, nort's response--ratings flawed and i had no billboards. dontfademe goes in shitter in six months cause his picks sucked, nort's response--the ref's fucked me over in a lot of my losses. when the comcast shitfest is cancelled he will say he had no support, same old story. can't wait for the cavalcade of shit on his newest venture.

What's their primary source of revenue? Cost-per-click or other ads on the site? Good luck with that. How little was Offman making at the Score after 17 years to ditch the station for this?

Actually I think it was more him leaving before he got whacked.

It may seem a bit of a long shot but radio is a screwed-up business and stranger things have happened. The "King of All Media" took the money and ran to satellite. Mariotti fled the print media. Who's to say that the backers of this project aren't willing to pony up for a big name to get the ball rolling? The assumption all along has been that Mac is going to WSCR, but HE hasn't said that.

A couple of interesting comments from Big-Head Ed Sherman's column...

The station is showing its commitment by handing out six-figure, multi-year contracts. Mr. Hernandez won't disclose his finances, but industry observers believe he is shelling out in the neighborhood of $2 million in start-up costs.

&

One industry observer scoffed at Webio's lineup, saying it was made up of "B-list people." None of the hosts had prominent weekday shows at the other sports stations in town.

Not surprisingly, Mr. North is bullish about the lineup. He compares what he has now to what WSCR had in place when it first launched in 1992. He was a no-name when he debuted on the station, as was afternoon host Dan McNeil. Both went on to become big stars.
"This lineup is far ahead of what we had back then," Mr. North said. "Our lineup is more experienced."
